Antique Bronze Figurative Sculpture of Amor with a Dolphin
Located in London, GB
The bronze figurative group on a cylindrical marble base with the mythological god Amor encircled by a large dolphin, signed 'Poirier'.
This bronze model is based on the design of an original ancient Roman marble fountain, which was discovered in the city of Pompeii. In 79 AD, the volcano Versuvius erupted, causing the neighboring cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum to become submerged under layers of molten lava and ash. Although the volcanic eruption caused devastation for the people of these ancient cities, the thick layers of ash and pumice preserved many ancient objects and architecture. One of these was the ancient marble fountain that provided the model for this bronze. The original marble was found in the remains of an aristocratic family's garden, where it had stood as an ornamental garden fountain that featured the dolphin's open mouth as a waterspout.
The ancient fountain...

Grand Tour Neoclassical Bronze of “The Dying Gaul”
Located in Palm Springs, CA
A nice little bronze Grand Tour souvenir bronze of the Dying Gaul a famous sculpture of antiquity preserved in Rome. This bronze has nice detail. The patina is worn in some places and it is in estate found condition. We haven’t tried to clean or polish it.
Some patina loss minor nicks and surfaces scratches, please see the detailed photos.
For this interested this from Wikipedia about the original sculpture:
The Dying Gaul, also called The Dying Galatian[2] (Italian: Galata Morente) or The Dying Gladiator, is an ancient Roman marble semi-recumbent statue now in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. It is a copy of a now lost Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic period (323–31 BC) thought to have been made in bronze.[3] The original may have been commissioned at some time between 230 and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Galatians, the Celtic or Gaulish people of parts of Anatolia. The original sculptor is believed to have been Epigonus, a court sculptor of the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon.
Until the 20th century, the marble statue was usually known as The Dying Gladiator, on the assumption that it depicted a wounded gladiator in a Roman amphitheatre.[4] However, in the mid-19th century it was re-identified as a Gaul or Galatian and the present name "Dying Gaul" gradually achieved popular acceptance. The identification as a "barbarian" was evidenced for the figure's neck torc, thick hair and moustache, weapons and shield carved on the floor, and a type of Gallic carnyx between his legs.[5]
Description
The white marble statue, which may originally have been painted, depicts a wounded, slumped Gaulish or Galatian Celt, shown with remarkable realism and pathos, particularly as regards the face. A bleeding sword puncture is visible in his lower right chest. The warrior is represented with characteristic Celtic hairstyle and moustache with a Celtic torc...

Amazone zu Pferde, Bronze Equestrian Statue after August Kiss 'German, 1802-1865'
Located in Dublin 8, IE
Amazone zu Pferde is an 1841 bronze equestrian statue by August Kiss, installed outside the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
It was based on a smaller clay model which August Kiss first built in 1839. Amazone zu Pferde stands opposite its companion statue, Löwenkämpfer.
A bronze copy, cast in 1929, sits in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Zinc copies also exist in England, Italy, and elsewhere in Germany
August Kiss (1802-1865)
August Kiss was trained at the Ironworks in Paprotzan and the Royal Iron Foundry Gleiwitz. He further took lessons in chasing and drawing at the Academy under Leonhard Posch. From 1825 he worked as a student and later as assistant in the workshop of Daniel Rauch. In 1830 Kiss received a teaching position at the Königlichen Gewerbeinstitut in Berlin. He also repeatedly collaborated with his friend and colleague Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The marble version of the fighting Amazone sculpture, one of his masterpieces, is nowadays to be found in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. Moreover Kiss designed the tombs of Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Christian Daniel Rauch.

A Patinated Bronze Statue of a Seated Greek Scholar signed Moreau
Located in Vancouver, British Columbia
A patinated cast bronze statue of a classically draped Greek scholar sitting sideways on a Klismos chair with the trademark griphons as front leg supports, the subject holding a pen in his right hand and an open scroll on the other left signed "Moreau" inscribed on one side of the chair. There are no visible foundry marks.
Presumably the signature stands for Mathurin Moreau, a 19 Century French sculptor born 1822, and son of noted sculptor Jean Baptiste Moreau. In 1841, the 19 year old Mathirin entered the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and, the following year, won the Second Grand Prix de Rome with his sculpture Diodemus removing the Palladium. Several of his works remain on public display in Paris, among them on the facade of the Gare du Nord...
