19th Century Meiji Period Bronze of a Boy Collecting Sweet Chestnuts by Seiya
About the Item
A charming Meiji period bronze of a boy collecting sweet chestnuts by Seiya, he carries a basket and is looking down at an insect crawling over his hand, he is also evidently wearing adult sandals, signed in a seal ‘Genryusai Seiya zo’. Japanese, circa 1880.
Measures: H 12in L 12in W 7 ¼ in
Footnote: Genryusai Seiya was the master craftsman in charge of a workshop which specialized in export wares of the highest quality. Production included human genre figures, vases and exotic bronze models of animals probably influenced by the opening of Tokyo Zoological Gardens in 1882.
