Ken Beldin Large Scarab Design Pendant, Mid-Century Mexican Mixed Metal
By Ken Beldin
Located in Phoenix, AZ
Modern scarab design vintage mixed metal necklace made in Mexico by ex-pat artist Ken Beldin 1940s and 1950s. Signed on the back: Ken Beldin. In excellent vintage condition. The pendant measures: 3" H x 2 1/4" W. The necklace chain is made of copper, shells, beads, and leather and is approximately 20" total length. The pendant bears a lovely green patina and hangs from the original chain. Ken Beldin (1900-?) was born in Mississippi and was educated at U. of C. Berkeley. He retired as head of a successful ad agency in Los Angeles in 1931 to travel through the Southwest. He worked for a time with Mexico’s National Railways attracting tourists to travel to Mexico by rail and was drawn into the rugged beauty of Mexico and its people. He set up a studio in Tenencingo South of Mexico City near Taxco and began creating one of a kind jewelry and sculpture. He was the custodian of a collection of archeological Pre-Columbian stones, and it was from these he derived his motifs. His "modern Ethnic" jewelry was considered to have the most feeling and the most authentic look of the Period. He worked throughout the 1940s and 1950s with copper, brass, steel, wood and leather. His work was admired and collected by some of the elite of Hollywood including Barbara Hutton, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagny and Sammy Davis, Jr. His friends in Mexico who also purchased his work were: Diego Riviera...

Beautiful pair of pillows made of finely handwoven multi-color vintage Saltillo Mexican blanket. Originally this price used as wall tapestry and we decided to make pillows from it .the pillows are made with the woven textile back and front, with Frash new inserts ,great happy pair for any room. All they way back to the 1500s, the Aztecs were wearing colorful blankets created out of cotton and agave fibers, and dyed bright colors using the crushed fruits and insects. Fine Antique Cuernavaca Reticulated Sterling Silver Ruby Glass Cross on Chain
Located in New York, NY
Intricate and unusual antique Cuernavaca reticulated sterling silver and ruby glass cross on chain Late 19th- Early 20th Century The city of Cuernavaca, the ancient Quauhnahuac, is called the "City of Eternal Spring" due to its designation as tierra templada (temperate region). It is believed to be one of the origins of the Mesoamerican civilization. The city is home to a number of notable early churches dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries, including the Cuernavaca Cathedral, which was a part of the monastery of the Third Order of the Franciscans, called La Asunción in the 16th century. The location, just a 90 minute drive from Mexico City, has attracted royalty, aristocrats and artists for centuries. Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico, Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy, Barbara Hutton, the Shah of Iran, Bauhaus designer Michael van Buren...

Blanco by OCTAVIO PAZ
Located in Middletown, NY
A scarce example of one of the 29 privately circulated lettered copies. The entire run consisted of 529 copies, 500 of these being the numbered ones available to purchase. Paz, Octavio. BLANCO. Mexico City: Joaquín Mortiz, 1967. First, Limited Edition. 8vo., 9 x 6 3/4 in. (229 x 173 mm); printed in black and red, Bodoni type on Antique RLCH paper, joined to create a continuous 'concertina' of 32 pages (joined every 4) and printed on one side only. LEPORELLO BINDING with printed boards and cream cloth spine, title in black, slipcase. The binding is very faintly thumbed and slipcase has a closed tear to the base and some rubbing at corners but overall this delicate book is in wonderful condition. One of the 29 lettered and privately circulated copies, as stated on the limitation page, from a run of 529 (500 copies numbered). EXTRAS: "Aviso al lector" sheet printed on yellow paper. Very good. Octavio Paz wrote this poem in New Delhi between July and September of 1966, while he was serving as Mexico's Ambassador to India. As outlined in the "Aviso al lector", separately printed and included in this copy of the work, «Octavio Paz conceives the long poem as a different form and governed by its own logic, not as an expansion or extension of the short poem.» He begins experimenting with "poetry of movement, signs in rotation" culminating in Blanco. «Appearance, disappearance and reappearance of certain themes, presences, words, obsessions, the shape of Blanco is that of the spiral. There are two main currents—word and eroticism—that come together, separate and come together again. The text allows multiple readings: it is a cluster of meanings, a poem that contains several poems. ... The same poetic requirement governs the visual conception of the page and explains the particularities of this edition. Typesetting is one aspect of verbal composition. On the one hand, it is a kind of punctuation, not orthographic but rhythmic; on the other, it is the space where the written sign...

Backgammon Lineal Wood Case with Glass Chips and Dice
By Orfeo Quagliata
Located in Naucalpan, Edo de Mex
Backgammon is a very old strategic board game, from which its origin is still undefined. A true Classic game about tactics and luck played around the globe. Taking this Classic as inspiration, Orfeo collaboration joined skills to create a board game with stimulating materials and astounding chips. Shined a spotlight on to the raw materials used to create it. The exterior of the board is composed of two elements, a metalic box and a thinly sliced oyster cut veneer of parota wood. The oysters are sourced from reclaimed branches of these gigantic trees; a material that is commonly discarded as fire wood given the difficulties of processing it. Underneath the wood they have used a single sheet of meticulously oxidized metal that is laser cut to size, then assembled into a box by one of their master craftsmen. Opening the chest you’ll find a treasure of glass checkers and dice handmade by Orfeo Quagliata’s artisans. Orfeo takes his most interesting glass techniques to apply them to all the chips in the game. The checkers are manufactured in two different processes. The "Barcodes" technique is a fine linear design with schemes of different colors that contrast between one competitor and another. Thin strips of different colored glass are placed next to each other and then fused into a single piece, from which circular pieces are drilled, ground and hand polished to form the chip. The more sober and bitone "Roarshax" technique presents an electrifying texture on the top of a transparent body. Meanwhile the dice are solid glass cubes...
