About the Item

Margherita armchair by Franco Albini, Bonacina, Italy, 1950s The iconic Margherita armchair, designed by Franco Albini for Bonacina. The armchair is made of rattan. At the time, Albini was experimenting with the use of elastic and flexible materials such as wicker. Margherita is the first legless armchair in Italian design. It features a frame composed of rattan and Malacca reeds, and a fabric-covered cushion. This creation won the Gold Medal at the 9th Milan Triennale. It represents a milestone in Italian design and one of the most famous creations by the great master of Rationalism, Franco Albini, who created it in collaboration with Gino Colombini.
