Italian Binta four Armchairs designed by Philippe Bestenheider for Moroso, 2010

About the Item

Binta Moroso is an armchair by Philippe Bestenheider characterized in its conception by essential features drawn from tradition African reworked. Its sculptural shape reminds us of African craftsmanship objects but made soft by the polyurethane rubber of which it is made. Binta like a baobab resting on the ground with its generous and shapely lines, it also recalls this once again African plant. “Binta was born from a look at the African world. Its sculptural form refers to African wooden objects, but those shapes are made soft because they are made of polyurethane rubber. Like a baobab, Binta rests on the ground with generous shapes, exhibiting its elegance recalling the heaviness of a baobab. Its covering is given by the composition of Wax fabrics (currently out of production), traditionally worn by African women. This patchwork of contrasts underlines the morphology of the armchair in which volumes are wrapped and sculpted. The composition of fabrics offers a variety of infinite color contrasts enhancing the shape of the product. The cheerfulness of color contrasts, which harks back to the tradition of fabrics and combinations of the African world, refers to the tailoring of women's clothes; as if Binda were a Senegalese woman ready to wear and enhance the chromatic fervors of Africa".
