Bas Van Pelt Patinated Tubular Armchair in Metal and Sisal
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Bas van Pelt, armchair, metal, sisal, The Netherlands, 1930s. This original comfortable chair is designed by the Dutch interior and furniture designer Bas van Pelt (1900-1945) and was manufactured by E.M.S. Overschie. The construction of this particular chair is made of chromed tubular metal frames, giving it a sleek appearance. But then the seat and armrests have a warm appearance due to the coarsely woven fabric ‘sisal’. The design shows traits of the aesthetics by Bauhaus. The seat has discoloration and the metal shows signs of use, which contribute to the authentic look. Bastiaan Johannes van Pelt (1900-1945) was a Dutch furniture designer and interior designer. As son of a book printer, he spend his time after school working in several printing companies in Holland. At that time he already engaged in topics like designing furniture, interiors, carpets and fabrics, graphic work and pottery. In 1927, he quit his old job and started to work at a furniture factory owned by his father-in-law J.C. Jansen in Overschie. Together with his brother-in-law, Jan Jansen...

Guglielmo Ulrich Grand Wingback Chair in Natural Cream Upholstery
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Guglielmo Ulrich, high wingback chair, fabric, wood, Italy, 1930s Grand high back chair newly upholstered by the experienced craftspeople in our in-house atelier. This chair features an exceptional high backrest with wings, giving it a very theatrical appearance. Typical for Italian midcentury design are the curvy, bold shapes such as the voluptuous armrests. The green feet are small and conical. This chair is a comfortable classic winged chair with an elegant high back that will fit perfectly in a cosy corner. Guglielmo Ulrich (1904-1977) was an Italian architect, furniture designer and writer. After attending the Scuola Speciale di Architettura at the Brera Academy and graduating in architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 1927 Ulrich started his successful career. Together with Renato Wild he founded a furniture manufacturing company called ‘Arca’ in 1930. The company focused on exquisite materials and luxurious designs. Ulrich worked as an architect and interior and furniture designer mainly for the Milanese upper class but also wrote books about furniture...

Bas Van Pelt Tubular Cantilevered Lounge Chair with Red Sisal Seating
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Bas van Pelt for EMS, armchair, metal, sisal, lacquered wood, The Netherlands, 1930s. This original and comfortable chair, designed by Dutch interior and furniture designer Bas van Pelt (1900-1945), was manufactured by E.M.S. Overschie. The chair features a cantilevered tubular metal frame, lending it a sleek and modern appearance. This is contrasted by the warm, coarsely woven red 'sisal' fabric used for the seat and backrest, complemented by black lacquered wooden armrests. The combination of these materials creates an exciting visual and tactile experience. During the early 1930s, Van Pelt designed several pieces of tubular steel furniture, which were produced by D3 and E.M.S. Overschie. At that time, furniture designers with a functionalist approach were particularly interested in exploring the applications of tubular steel in furniture design.
