The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This first class conservational treatment will ensure that the poster would retain its present condition if professionally framed with museum-quality glass and not exposed to direct sunlight or put into long-term storage following the specialist guidelines for the storage of posters and prints. Jacob Lawrence was one of a number of artists who were invited to design posters for the 1972 Olympic Games held in Munich. He was first non-white artist to commissioned by an Olympic Games Committee. Lawrence created an image to commemorate the involvement of black athletes in the Olympic Games, as track was the field in which they had traditionally excelled. This striking poster depicts five black runners with grimacing faces take giant strides around a large, curving track as they head toward the finish line. They hold batons in their hands to show that they are competing in a relay race. Each athlete is shown with his arms, legs, and head in a slightly different position, one has his head back and his right leg stretched forward, almost straight. Lawrence used bold colours to depict the runners' stylised faces and legs as well as the repeated shapes of the track. He combined the flat, simplified shapes and empty spaces of modernism with silhouetted figures and the rhythmic patterns and colours of Harlem scenes. He labelled his pictorial style 'dynamic cubism'. Lawrence's poster embraces several themes: a) the intensity of competition in a relay race with invariably dramatic endings; b) memories of the African American athlete, Jesse Owens...

This framed advertising poster for Nanyang Brothers Tobacco dates to the 1920-30s and melds the meticulous detail of traditional Chinese painting with the nuanced color and fine resolution of color lithography. Known as yuefenpai, or calendar posters, these advertisements depicted fashionable women and intriguing scenery alongside annual calendars and product placements. Evolved from traditional nianhua paintings (New Year pictures), these advertising posters were strongly influenced by the Art Deco movement in the west and recall the economic boom of early 20th century Shanghai, an international center of business and trade. In this example, a young woman dressed in fine clothing and jewelry strolls through a traditional courtyard garden, surrounded by stone statues and towering pagodas.
