This is the starting period when the artists departed from his high-relief and gold gilt period and started focusing on making porcelain pieces with underglaze paint and experimented new colors. A Japanese silk Fukusa panel circa late 19th-early 20th century of Meiji Period. The front was beautifully decorated with Yuzen-zome, a labor intensive resist-dye technique invested by an artist monk Miyazaki Yuzensai (1654 -1736) of Edo period. The auspicious composition features a group of red-crown cranes, the symbol of longevity. Three of them perch on the rock by the ocean (East Sea) an two of them are in flight. Additionally, two egrets frolic in the wave. Yuzen dying was used extensively to showcase the amazing details such as the waves and the gradual coloring effect. Embroidery was used sparsely to highlight areas such as the legs of the crane to render it more dimensional details.
The piece has a red silk backing and still retains four blue tassels on corners as well as decorative stitches along the edges.

Created in 1948 and 1950, the two prints were not intentionally designed by Jacoulet as a matching pair. However, it became popular among his collectors to pair them as a couple due to the subject matter and the complimentary and symmetrical composition.
La Mariee shows a shy bride against a rather plain window like background which made her elaborate wedding gown pop. Silver and MOP mica were used both in the background and on her dress, the sash and its embroidery. It is signed in plate and marked with the Red Owl stamp. It has a scroll carved base and sides as well four pagoda-shape cornices. The cloisonne panels were obviously the work of two different artist studios and were assembled on purpose to demonstrate a mixture of styles. Komainu are auspicious animals in Japanese cultures in both Shinto and Buddhism tradition. Originally from China, these animals symbolizes guardians to ward off evil spirits. Hiramaki-e was used in combination with carving and combing to render the lions with various surface textures. Exquisite Japanese Lacquer Maki-e Hand Box Kobako Edo Period

An early Japanese lacquer Maki-e decorated kobako (small storage box) circa 18th century (Edo period). Based on its form and size, this kobako was possibly used as a Chabako to store the accoutrements for chado (tea ceremony). The lidded box is of rectangular form with bevel design on all edge that softens the appearance. The entire surface was densely covered with a background of nashiji. Elaborate Maki-e techniques were used on each side to showcase a distinct landscape or floral design within a cartouche panel.
