This colorful Majolica pitcher was sculpted in Saint Clement, France, circa 1890; named "Le Canard Sortant de l'Oeuf", the charming ceramic olive oil jug with spout thru the mouth and top cork, is in the shape of a colorful young duck exiting an egg shell. The oil recipient is hand painted with a small duckling chasing a butterfly. The jug, stamped on the bottom "Saint Clement France", is in excellent condition with rich patinated colors in the blue, green and yellow palette. Pictured in the book "Les Barbotine" by Maryse Bottero page 41. See last two pictures.

Quimper pottery traces its roots to 1685, when Jean-Baptiste Bousquet established a faïence workshop in the town of Quimper. Celebrated for its hand-painted scenes of Breton life, maritime themes, and floral borders, Quimper faïence became a symbol of French regional identity and craftsmanship. The HB atelier later merged with other regional makers, and the tradition continues today.

A potter and painter, Albert Green (1914 - 1994) earned an international reputation for his ceramics, stoneware, and canvases. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he studied painting at the Art Students League in New York City, supporting himself with retail jobs selling men’s clothing. But in 1946 a chance encounter with a display of contemporary Japanese pottery inspired him on the spot to switch from painting to pottery. Green learned pottery techniques through engineering manuals and applied his knowledge of college chemistry to teach himself glazing. “In those days I looked at pots constantly,” he said. “I’d travel 100 miles to look at a good pot. I simply taught myself.”
He took his painting skills and applied them to his clay works, creating pieces that critics praised for their painterly qualities and subtle sense of color. In 1976, he retired from the retail clothing...
