This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver spoon celebrating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee has a plain oval form. The anterior surface of the handle is embellished with a variety of commemorative subtly gilded scenes separated by scrolling ribbon ornamentation accented with the scene depicting wording 'Peace', 'Commerce', 'Electricity', 'Rifle Volunteers', 'Steam' and 'Penny Postage'. The reverse surface is ornamented with the insignia of the Star of India including the motto 'Heavens Light Our Guard' above a further scrolling ribbon design incorporating the wording 'Indian Empire', 'Canada', 'Australasia' and 'Cape Colony' amidst undulating laurel branches. The lower portion of the reverse of the handle includes part hallmarks beside the inscription 'In commemoration of the 60th year of the most glorious reign of H.I.M. The crossbanded pedestals have cupboard doors enclosing slatted shelves for warming plates in one and a lead-lined slops drawers, a tambour fronted shelf and a cellaret in the other. An Exceptionally Rare George II Antique Silver "Acorn" Nutmeg Grater Made in London circa 1750 by Samuel Meriton This very rare example is modelled to simulate an acorn and is decorated with reeded and beaded bands to simulate the shape of an acorn. The cover unscrews to reveal the removable steel grater and this piece is in excellent condition, with a good colour. The cover is very well marked with SM for Samuel Meriton and this is the manner in which acorn nutmeg graters are unusually marked, with the maker's mark only.
