This first edition of the book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name, co-produced with the Center de Création Industrielle and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, presented from February 21 to April 22, 1985.
This book takes up the outline of this exhibition, which presents a panorama of various architectural trends from 1968 to 1985 in Europe and the United States through the collections of the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt, inaugurated in 1984. It is also an extension of the Images et Imaginaires d'Architecture event presented at the Center Pompidou by the CCI in 1984.
A set of two hundred original drawings, thirty-five models, and a few paintings and sculptures testify to a new plurality of research and the current proliferation of architectural creation.
This panorama reflects through some forty projects (nearly half of which were finished), many recent currents, and not just postmodernism.

Between the parade of the Allies in 1919 and the one of the Germans in 1940 on the same Champs-Elysées, Paris experienced a fruitful cultural and intellectual period for 20 years, open to the avant-garde and faithful to the best of tradition. In the period between the two World Wars, France maintained its status as a significant economic, military, and colonial power. A bespoken sterling silver chocker necklace very bold design by Graziella Laffi, Lima, Peru, circa 1970s. The chocker features six subtly hammered roundels radiating into a trio of Axe-shaped fixed pendants, with two smaller ones flanking a large central one. The shape of the axe was often found in the Pre-Columbian art. As a bronze age tool, it symbolizes power. The necklace is not chain link but cast and joined as a solid chocker with box clasp mechanism. The design radiates a sense of history with the primitive tribal geometry in form, yet the necklace appears beyond ethnic, it exuberates a confident and bold modernistic aesthetic. The drop of the necklace on the mannequin (not included) is 11". It has an approximate 16" circumference and weighs 320 grams (10.3 troy ounces). It was tested as 900 purity with XRF analyzer. There is a Peruvian Cultural Ministry label applied and a catalog sticker on verso as shown.
Graziella Laffi was born in 1923 in Florence, Italy to Gino Laffi, a silversmith and artist. Following her family tradition, Graziella enrolled in master classes after elementary school, focusing on design and painting. She next attended Escuela de Bellas Artes de Puerta Romana for three years, where Gino taught, and then to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, where she concentrated in architecture until the start of World War II. In 1947, Graziella, then twenty-four, immigrated with her parents to Peru. Gino later created a silversmith studio and showroom called Fabrica Laffi on Avenue Mexico, where Graziella initially learned her Craft. The Pre-Columbian culture in her adopted country inspired Graziella to travel and collect, which ultimately influence her design in the silver pieces. Graziella learned the metalworking techniques of the ancient Peruvian civilizations and rejected the current technology. She mostly used hammering, rolling and creating joints as the ancients do. As an ambassador of Peruvian culture, her work promoted the indigenous Peruvian art and rekindled the interest in its ancient heritage throughout South America, the United States and Europe. Yves Thomas is a recognized listed French artist born in Normandy, France, in 1937.
The most beautiful works of Yves Thomas have something musical, sonata, and symphony mingle in the light of the painting. The black rocks declined in purple-gray, are like the shadows of a mysterious world whose surprising beauty we can observe. In these "visionary" paintings, everything evokes the passage of time, from the wear and tear of stones to stranded ships. And yet, the light of the artwork escapes this erosion so much it is alive and plays with its timelessness.

About the Artist:
At the age of 14, Yves Thomas copied a large painting by Antoine Jean Gros, named "The plague-stricken of Jaffa," in the Louvre Museum
Yves Thomas readily admits that "the result was not completely satisfactory" but, coming out of adolescence, he mastered drawing.
At 17, Yves Thomas joined the French Navy for five years. One can imagine the artist scrutinizing the ocean waves and attempting to capture their moving forms in his sketchbooks.
During this period, he discovered and practiced "The Camera Lucida" technique assiduously. An increasingly rigorous design naturally leads to his "Ingres" period.
Open to different trends and curious by nature, Yves Thomas began, a few years after, abstract paintings and then returned to a hyperrealistic drawing...
