The Dragon & His Year This mythical animal symbolizes power, good fortune, and strength and is associated with auspicious traits like intelligence, ambition and charisma. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon's esteemed position. The Year of the Dragon holds immense significance in the Chinese zodiac, repeating every 12 years. And this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year, occurring Feb. 10, follows the Year of the Rabbit, with Dragon. In contrast to the other eleven animal signs (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig) in the Chinese zodiac, Dragon is the only legendary creature. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon’s esteemed position. European legends portray dragons as demonic, malevolent beings guarding treasures to be conquered by heroic kings. The persistent malevolent connotations of the dragon in Western cultures can be directly attributed to the influence of early Christianity, where the dragon and its serpentine relations were often regarded as stand-ins for the devil. In contrast to the Western connotations of the dragon, the dragon in Chinese culture symbolizes good luck, strength, health and the male element Yang. Chinese dragons are heralded as bringers of good fortune, associated with rain and water. This positive connotation in China stems...

TIFFANY & CO. 1900 Edwardian Essex Glass Enameled Equestrian Pin In 18Kt Gold
By Tiffany & Co.
Located in Miami, FL
Equestrian Essex glass pin designed by Tiffany & Co. This is an exceptionally rare pin created during the Edwardian period at Tiffany & Co. back in the 1900's. The stick pin has been crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and mounted with an Essex glass reverse intaglio carving, depicting the equestrian thematic of a three-dimensional horse-rider. The piece is secured by a gold stick pin and embellished with a an outer curved frame, which is decorated with blue and white hard enamels. Masterfully made with great craftsmanship and showing beautiful rich aged patina. This stunning pin would look beautiful worn on a blouse or blazer, either alone or paired with other pins! It is presented in the original antique Tiffany box. Country: New York City, United States. Period: Edwardian, 1900-1905. Technique: Hand carved, hand painted Essex Glass. Weight: 7.85 Grams, (5.10 Dwt). Measurements: 80 mm by 24 mm by 6 mm (3.15 x 0.95 x 0.24 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped at the reverse with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and signed as follows, "TIFFANY & CO.". The gold parts have been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as .750/.999 assay. Essex Glass Essex glass is a term primarily used in connection with a specific form of reverse intaglio, a technique where a design is engraved on the back of a crystal cabochon, then painted and sealed. This results in a visually stunning effect where the image appears to float within the crystal. The final result is a cabochon where the painted design appears to be floating within the crystal, creating a unique and visually captivating effect. The Edwardian Period This era, like the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and mill grain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Mille graining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look. Literature: Miller, Anna M. Illustrated Guide to Jewelry Appraising. New York: Von Nostrand Reinhold, 1990. Widener, Roger & Walter, Thomas. “Little Beauties” The Story of Reverse Intaglio Crystals © Roger Thomas ltd. Renaissance Revival 1880 Sword Jabot In 18Kt Gold With Demantoids And Diamonds
Located in Miami, FL
Renaissance Revival sword jabot-brooch. An exceptional and very rare jabot type brooch, created in England during the Victorian era, back in the 1880. This piece is fantastic and has been crafted with renaissance revival patterns in the shape of a miniature sword with jewels, in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with accents in carved platinum. The sword is well proportionate and made with gorgeous details. It is completely decorated with twisted woven wires, engravings and chiseled designs. The sword sheath, the grip pommel and the rain-guard are embellished with a fantastic assortment of eleven natural earth mined gemstones; such white colorless diamonds and vivid green demantoids garnets. It is fitted with a sheath to slide the blade very tight, which is attached to a decorative security chain. This magnificent piece should be an important addition to any serious jewelry collection and will be a great conversation piece when you display it with your dress or on the lapel of your jacket. Demantoids Demantoid is the green gemstone variety of the mineral andradite, a member of the garnet group of minerals. Andradite is a calcium- and iron-rich garnet. Ferric iron is the cause of the green in the stone. Although garnets have been known since ancient times, the demantoid variety was not discovered until 1868 in Russia's western central Ural Mountains. The find was an alluvial deposit about 110 km from Ekaterinburg, north by northwest along the Bobrovka River, near the village of Elizavetinskoye. Miners were immediately stunned by the highly refractive nature of the gem material, which is atypical for garnet. They began comparing it to diamond and referred to it as "demantoid", from the old German Demant, meaning diamond. The reason is obvious, with its high brilliance and dispersion. However, as demantoid garnets are quite rare and found in so few locations, they can command quite high prices, especially if they have a particularly lovely horsetail inclusion. Most stones are less than one carat in size after cutting in polishing. Demantoid gems...

Modernist 1970 Convertible Maltese Pendant Brooch 18Kt Gold 106.86 Cts Gemstones
Located in Miami, FL
Convertible Maltese Cross pendant brooch. A flamboyant and colorful iconic piece, created with modernist patterns, back in the 1970. This convertible oversized Maltese pendant-brooch has been carefully assembled with elements crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with brushed, satined, textured and polished finish, creating a great surfaces contrast. It is suited at the reverse, with a hinged double pins with a trombone security lock to wear as a brooch and a removable retractable piece to wear as a pendant. Although this design had already been used for more than 2000 years since ancient times, fashion and jewelry houses such as Verdura, Channel and Bvlgari integrated this very popular model into their designs. Being since then an icon of high fashion. One of the most iconic pieces of jewelry depicting a Maltese cross, was designed by Fulco Di Verdura (1899-1978) in 1920, when he created the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel. It is embellished, with 17 colorful gemstones having a total combined weight of 106.86 carats, they are individually described as follow; In the center, in a bezel setting with one Sugarloaf cabochon cut (20 x 20 x 8 mm) of Afghani green Chrysoprase of 22.90 carat. Screwed setting, with 4 Japanese cultured white mabe pearls of 16 mm. Four-prong set, with 4 round cabochon cut (5 mm) of natural Italian red coral, with a total of 3 carats. Bezel set, with 4 round cabochon cut (10 x 10 x 8 mm) of Afghani green chrysoprase, with a total weight of 22.88 carats. Bezel set, with 4 oval cabochon cut (12 x 20 x 8 mm) of Hungarian greenish malachite, with a total weight of 58.08 carats. It is pretty heavy and large, with a total weight of 104.2 Grams and a measurements of 95 mm by 89 mm (3.75 by 3.5 Inches). Stamped, with the maker's mark, the hallmark for the assay of the 18kt gold and signed, "INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA 18KT". Note: The Maltese cross, is a cross symbol, consisting of four "V" or arrowhead shaped concave quadrilaterals converging at a central vertex at right angles, two tips pointing outward symmetrically. It is a heraldic cross variant which developed from earlier forms of eight-pointed crosses in the 16th century. Although chiefly associated with the Knights Hospitaller (Order of St. John, now the Sovereign Military Order of Malta...
