Studies for a Female Nude - Original Pastel Drawing by P. Andrieu - Late 1800
By Pierre Andrieu
Located in Roma, IT
Studies for a Female Nude is a fascinating drawing realized by the French artist Pierre Andrieu in the 19th century. The state of preservation is very good, except for two small rips of the paper on the lower and higher right margins. Pierre Andrieu (1821-1892) was a pupil of the famous painter Eugène Delacroix from 1844 and his colleague until 1863. He worked with him at the town hall of Paris, at the Senate, at the Chamber of Deputies, at the Angels Chapel at the Saint-Sulpice Church, and they restored the ceiling of the Apollo Gallery at the Louvre. In 1868, he restored the paintings at the Senate library realized by Delacroix ruined by infiltrations. In 1871, he opened his art studio and realized copies of Delacroix’s artworks, original paintings with genre scenes and animals (one is currently at the National Gallery in London) and a great number of orientalist drawings...

Underworld, Past- From the series " Past, Now, Future" by Parimah Avani - 2023
Located in Roma, IT
Underworld, Past is a drawing realized by Iranian artist and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. China ink, acrylic, and mixed media on Japanese Kozo paper with applied Tengujo Kashmir paper and Papyrus, Plettenberg, DE. Exhibited in " Heroine's Journey" 2023, in Gallery hall of German Bank " Sparkasse", Winner of scholarship and art residency "Werkstatt Plettenberg" in DE, 2023. From the series " Past,  Now, Future" in which the central piece "Earth- Now" is in the Municipal collection of Plettenberg, Germany. Hand-signed and dated. The artwork is represented with alchemical, magical, and mythological symbols and signs, through rebellious miniature figures, creatures and animals that shape the whole body of time and three words, here the past - underworld has the shape of the head of a horse, with by metal colors referring to the alchemical process of soul in a minimalistic manner, painting is characterized by expressive brushes. In a fusion of myth and archetypal features, the works aim to transport viewers into the intricate realm of "Heroine's Journey," an exhibition that encapsulates the essence of unity, rebellion and revolutionary figures, transformation, and resistance, and the enduring power of mythological narratives.  Through a combination of limited colors, shapes, and ancient symbolism, these works invite an odyssey that transcends the boundaries of culture, time, and narrative. Drawing inspiration from Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. Avani's works weave together a narrative that celebrates the interconnectedness of all living beings.  Avani employs a chosen palette of alchemical colors: various gold, silver, bronze, tint, and copper, representing metals and planets. Each color carries deep, symbolic significance. Gold symbolizes the golden spirit and enlightenment, while silver connects to the feminine aspect and the moon's goddess associations. Copper represents both women and the essence of love. These colors create a narrative resonating with universal themes of transformation and spirituality, mirroring the elevation of the soul through alchemical symbolism. Parimah Avani, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran, is a multidisciplinary artist and a recognized figure in contemporary hermetic Persian literature and the avant-garde "Other" movement. Her book, "Magic Verses of Antalus," was a finalist for the prestigious "Shamlou" Award. Her most recent achievement is winning an art competition for a scholarship from Werkstatt Plettenberg in Germany, culminating in a solo exhibition held at the Gallery of the German Bank of Sparkasse. Avani's artistic journey began with travels to China and Russia during her formative years, oriental philosophies, particularly Zen and Buddhism, and folk arts ignited her passion for comparative mythology evident in her archaic style. In 2009, she moved to Rome, Italy to study multimedia art, and gained a Master’s in painting at the Fine Art Academy of Rome. Immersed in cultural parallels between East and West, mythological themes transcend boundaries in art, exploring magic and ancient scripts inspired by the scholarly insights of Frazer and Eliade on rituals. Her anthropological view culminated in a Ph.D. in the history of...

Golden Ballad of Hope - Paint by Parimah Avani - 2021
Located in Roma, IT
Golden Ballad of Hope is realized by Iranian Painter and Poet Parimah Avani in 2023. Sumi, Persian ink, and acrylic on kraft paper. Hand-signed and dated. Excellent conditions. From the series "Resistance and Alchemical Metals" The artwork is realized poeticly, with an exclusive title that refers to the socio-political context, and the application of limited color of metals" various copper, gold, silver, bronze" have metaphorical features of alchemy. In this series artist took positions, and gestures of revolutionary and rebellious bodies on the battlefield of revolution and transformed them dynamically into precious sources of resistance by spiritual transitions of colors akin to alchemy, meat, and blood found their symbolic meaning through colors and expressive brushstrokes, metals here refer to bodies of freedom seekers, shapable, flexible, shiny and a source of strength, that highlights how a body becomes a battlefield, a golden source of sacrifice, a silver font of resistance, copper as blood in fighting for freedom.  What makes this series unique: it is deeply behind the dynamic emotion of each gestural figure, in a minimalistic manner, and the vigorous and unbridled energy of brushstrokes, is raw, spontaneous, and emotionally charged.  Her works in this series challenge oppression and gender-related issues by applying oriental brushstrokes of calligraphy in ink as a primary tool, to fragile subjects.
