About the Item

Portrait is an original drawing in watercolor on paper realized by Orfeo Tanburi in 1943, Hand-signed on the lower right. The State of preservation is very good Sheet dimension: 27.5x 21cm. Imncluded a Passepartout: 49 x 34 cm. The artwork represents a portrait of a thinking woman, skillfully depicted by quick and confident strokes. the artwork is characterized by well-balanced harmony. Orfeo Tanburi(1910 - 1994) was Italian artist, in 1936 he went for the first time to Paris where he came into contact with some of the most important painters of the time and discovered the painting of Paul Cézanne. Back in Italy he collaborated with Roman theaters and was commissioned to decorate the atrium of the EUR theater; participates in the Rome Quadrennial and the following year at the Venice Biennale where he has the opportunity to meet the writer Curzio Malaparte. In the following years, he continued to participate in both the Rome Quadrennial and the Venice Biennale, at the same time setting up personal exhibitions in the most important cities in Italy. In 1949-1950, Tamburi joined the project of the important Verzocchi collection, on the theme of work, sending, in addition to a self-portrait, the work La fornace. The Verzocchi collection is currently kept in the Forlì Civic Art Gallery.
