Presenting A Very Important Teddy Roosevelt Letter from White House June 1907.
On ‘The White House’ letterhead. Typed and personally signed and amended by President Theodore Roosevelt.
With it’s original White House envelope, stamp and postage marks.
Dated June 14th 1907.
What makes this letter so important is the author, the office and the content.
It refers to the beliefs and opinions of the then President and First Lady (Edith) towards the women’s sufferage and empowerment movement that was the ‘hot topic’ of the time.
It is addressed to Eliza Calvert Obenchain who was a well known author at the end of the 19th Century and Early 20th Century. In 1905, Teddy referred to her book “Aunt Jane of Kentucky’ in a speech and recommended that every man in America should read it to understand ‘the plight of their womenfolk’. He regularly corresponded with her and we have a number of those letters in our collection. It appears that both he and Edith became big fans of Mrs Obenchain who was also heavily involved in the Suffragist movement.
The letters also provide a fascinating and historic record of Roosevelt’s personal beliefs and feelings on female empowerment.

I gladly accept the autographed copy of “Aunt Jane” which you have been so kind to send me. But Aunt Jane is so good and so wise that she must not (amount “race (illegible)) fall into the terrible mistake of the self-indulgent, selfish, shortsighted women, cold in heart and in temper, who shirk the duties of mother-hood and then try to cover up to themselves and to others their cowardice or self-indulgence by making believe they are actuated by wise or lofty motives. *

Found in a private chapel in the Rhone Valley, the large antique cross features a detailed hand carved sculpture of Jesus nailed on a wooden cross with forged iron nails over his hands and feet. The painted sculpture is well-proportioned, and has realistic details throughout the body, face, and hair. The pediment has the Latin inscription INRI (in John 19:19), which in English translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", and John 19:20 states that this was written in three languages, Hebrew, Latin, and Greek during the crucifixion of Jesus. The title "King of the Jews" is only used in the New Testament by gentiles, namely by the Magi, Pontius Pilate, and the Roman soldiers. In contrast, the Jewish leaders use the designation "King of Israel". Although the phrase "King of the Jews" is used in most English translations, it has also been translated "King of the Judeans". Fulwell Golf Club is a 241 acres (98 ha) golf course and centre comprising an 18-hole course located in Fulwell in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, west London.
In 1904 a group of local golf enthusiasts established the club at Fulwell. Led by prominent local figure H. O. Stutchbury, they appointed former Captain of Mid-Surrey Golf Club, Harry Tomlinson, as chairman and leased 244 acres (99 ha) from the Trustees of the Freake Estate, using 210 acres (85 ha) for the course. Early club officials included Frederick Dixon-Hartland, Viscount Villiers and Dr.Reginald Langdon Down, son of Dr.John Langdon Down.
