Taschens Alex Steinweiss From the Estate of Christian Audigier

About the Item

From the estate of Christian Audigier 21 May 1958 – 9 July 2015 He was a French fashion designer known for the Ed Hardy and Von Dutch clothing lines. Christian Audigier These are from his Los Angeles estate. Limited edition of 1500 In 1940, Columbia Records’ then art director Alex Steinweiss pitched a bold, new idea: why not replace the standard plain brown wrapper with an eye-catching illustration? The company took a chance, and within months record sales increased by over 800 percent. Thus, the album cover as we know it was invented. Steinweiss created a contemporary graphic art form with his concept, and his covers for Columbia took the industry by storm and revolutionized the way records were sold. Over three decades, Steinweiss made thousands of original artworks for classical, jazz, and popular record covers for Columbia, Decca, London, and Everest; as well as logos, labels, adverting material, even his own typeface, the Steinweiss Scrawl. This comprehensive volume from Taschen presents an overview of how Steinweiss’ launched the golden age of album cover design and influenced generations of designers to follow.

  • Japanese Prints by Gabriele Fahr-Becker Taschen 1999
    By Angelika Taschen
    Located in North Hollywood, CA
Japanese Prints by Gabriele Fahr-Becker. The major section of the book consists of the 139 reproductions, grouped by artist, each accompanied by a detailed, sensitive commentary. Street scenes, lovers’ trysts, festivals, portraits of courtesans and actors, landscapes and travelogues - these are the motifs of the ukiyo-e print. The dominant theme, however, is woman’s beauty, the grace of her posture and attitudes, and the decorative aesthetics of her flowing garments. Amongst the most celebrated of the artists featured here are Utamaro, with his beautiful courtesans and geishas; Sharaku, with his portraits of actors on the kabuki stage; Hokusai, with his landscapes, among them the "36 Views of Mount Fuji...

  • Great Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover Book
    By TASCHEN, Angelika Taschen
    Located in North Hollywood, CA
Great Escapes: Italy Angelika Taschen and Christiane Reiter Hardcover Book. To travel through Italy is as close as one gets to being in paradise. For centuries, writers, artists, architects, and merchants have been drawn here, inspired by the beauty of Venice, Florence, Naples, and Rome. Countless books, paintings, poems, and sculptures are evidence of its undying appeal, and over the past 60 years, the country has become one of the world’s top travel and holiday destinations. The loveliness of Italy—its architecture, landscapes, culture and food (some of the world’s finest!)—if not eternal, is certainly enduring, and the easygoing and relaxed Italian lifestyle, il dolce far niente, is still unrivaled. Here, some of Italy’s most amazing landscapes are brought to life, like Lake Como (residence of George Clooney), Venice, Florence and Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and no less magical, the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily. In these mythical surroundings are legendary hotels full of atmosphere, where novels are set, movies are made, weddings are celebrated, and famous love stories consummated: Villa d’Este on Lake Como, the Hotel Splendido...
