"Spring Journey" Original Acrylic Painting on Canvas by Tom Perkinson, Framed
Located in Encino, CA
"Spring Journey" is an original acrylic painting on canvas by Tom Perkinson. His use of saturated violets, vivid yellows, and resplendent oranges pushes color to almost-otherworldly realms. The viewer is invited to step into the painting to explore the scene within and imagine gazing at an easel of a plein-air painter with the blue sky, clouds, and terrain in full view. Here, Perkinson chose to depict a tribal group traveling during springtime with the vast sky above. Tribal members are both on foot and horseback, and comprise of men, women, and children - all trekking across the landscape beneath the foothills to a destiny unknown to us as the viewer. Perkinson describes his style of painting as "Romantic Realism," a technique that incorporates two iconic art movements. This style, in combination with the imagination of the artist, produces remarkable results, showcasing Perkinson's keen ability to capture emotion, nature, and life - all in a brushstroke. Both his technical talent and choice of subject matter pair perfectly with its original raw wood frame. The frame is by Legendwood in Sedona, Arizona, which no longer exists. Their frames are highly collectible, as they are rare, custom, and handmade. This masterful work would make a great addition to an art collection and enhance most any home, perfect for those who have an affinity for landscapes, impressionism, romanticism, realism, Southwestern Art, Native American themed art, plein-air painting, and nature. In the artist’s own words: “My color combinations aren’t in the realm of the natural world, because I don’t paint reality; I’m a painter of fiction. I try to paint a sense of place, as though this scene really does exist. I have had my collectors ask me where this scene is, and I just have to point to my head and say I made it up. Thus, I think of my work as romantic realism. I’m painting a certain reality that I’ve invented, inspired by the fascinatingly rich Southwestern landscape.” “Color gets all the credit, but it’s the values that do all the work. I don’t begin with sketches, because I want to be free to follow the painting in any direction. I start with washes of different values and tints. Then, I begin to look for a landscape. Several directions will appear to me at this time, and then I have to decide on one of them. During these first few moments, I must establish my distance from the scene. Am I a mile away or just across the river? This is one of the first steps, and I have to decide before I can continue. It’s important for working out the perspective and how things are going to relate to one another in the picture. Then, as the landscape evolves, I look for more images to add to the composition.” Artist: TOM PERKINSON (1940-) Title: SPRING JOURNEY Medium & Surface: ORIGINAL ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS (framed) Signed: HAND SIGNED BY ARTIST LOWER RIGHT Year Created: CIRCA 1979 Country of Creation: UNITED STATES Image Area Dimensions: 12 x 16 INCHES Frame Dimensions:* 19.5 x 23.625 x 2.125 INCHES *This work of art is being sold framed. Artist Info/Bio: ARTIST BIOGRAPHY DOCUMENT IS INCLUDED Documentation: CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY IS INCLUDED About the Artist: Tom Perkinson, born in Indiana in 1940, has become distinguished as a regional painter, known for his work grounded in the visually dramatic landscape of the Southwest. As a child, Perkinson discovered he had a love for the natural landscape, and a talent for art. He fostered that talent through classes at the John Herron Institute of Art in Indianapolis, and then at the Chicago Art Academy upon graduating from high school. He received a degree in art from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1964, before moving on to graduate school at the University of New Mexico. Here, among noted works of a larger scale, he continued to paint the landscape, and it was this work that began to reflect a new fascination with the Southwest. He had found what would become an infinite source of inspiration. Influenced by early painters of the southern Indiana landscape...

Helmut Gransow Landscape w/House & Barn "Springtime Reflections No. I"
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Springtown Reflections No. I” depicts the moment of change in the weather moving from harsh winter to the first warming days of spring melting the snow. The title suggests a moment to pause in farm life before the coming spring planting and also suggests a time of mental reflection on life and work. The puddles of melting snow reflect the buildings in the scene. The muted colors and slightly off kilter structures cause the buildings to appear worn but sturdy, a soft idyllic scene of rural life. Monserrate (Contemporary Landscape Painting of a Mountain in Columbia)
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary landscape painting of Monserrate in South America, neutral palette with light white mist over a dark green mountain 36 x 60 inches oil on canvas, unframed (thin wood stripping only) Painting is wired on the back for installation Magnificent contemporary landscape painting of "Monserrate", a mountain near Bogota in Columbia that rises 3.152 meters above sea level. All downtown Bogotá, south Bogotá and some sections of the north of the city are visible facing west, making it a popular destination for watching the sun set over the city. Bill Sullivan expertly paints wispy clouds that settle down around the mountain's peak. About the work by John Ashbery: With only a tinge of irony, Bill Sullivan makes new the vast spaces and swooning optimism of nineteeth-century Luminist painting. Reaffirming the contemplation of nature as its own reward, he also sets new tasks for painting and undertakes them with compelling eagerness. While there has been a tendency among some contemporary artists to present a revisionist view of the "great outdoors" of nineteenth-century landscape painters, Sullivan has no satirical agenda. After spending several years in South America amid the landscapes that attracted Frederic Edwin Church and Martin Heade, among others, he refined and strengthened this awesome imagery after returning to New York. A certain surreality floats though these vaporous visions of Columbia, though this may just be the result of Sullivan's careful documentation of scenes that looked unreal to begin with. About the Artist: Sullivan attended Silvermine College and earned an M.F.A. from The University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with Fairfield Porter, Neil Welliver, Jane Freilicher, John Button and Rudy Burckhardt. He also studied privately with Josef and Annie Albers. In the late 1960s, Sullivan joined Bowery Gallery, an artist-run gallery that was dedicatedto figurative art. Later, when the Alliance of Figurative Artists was starting, Sullivan organized weekly panels and discussions at The Educational Alliance. Sullivan's first solo show at Bowery Gallery in 1970 included paintings depicting people, New York cityscapes and still lifes. After this show, Sullivan developed an interest in landscape painting. New York City, the Hudson River and Manhattan's West Side highway became his main subjects. He had several shows of these paintings at Bowery Gallery and continued to paint the Hudson River until the end of his life. At one of these shows he met art collector G. W. Einstein, who became his friend and represented him for many years. Sullivan had his first solo show at G. W. Einstein Company in 1978. In 1977, Sullivan met Colombian writer Jaime Manrique; they traveled to Colombia, where Bill painted the places that Frederick Edwin Church and Martin Johnson Heade had painted in the 1850s. In Colombia he had a solo show in the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art in 1978. The years following his return from South America was the period when Sullivan's work was most in display in New York City. Sullivan remained in New York City until 2001 where he had several solo shows. In 2002, he settled in Hudson, New York, where his two nineteenth-century heroes, Frederick Church and Sanford Robinson Gifford, had lived. He painted many of the sites Church and Gifford rendered on canvas. Glowing Wave Crashing at the Shore - Seascape
Located in Soquel, CA
Highly detailed seascape by William Henry Blackman (American, b. 1930). A wave crashes at the shore, glowing from the sun shining through. Above the wave, a few gulls glide across the scene. The rocks in the foreground and the cliffs in the midground are finely textured, adding a lovely sense of realistic detail. Signed "Wm. Blackman" in the lower right corner. Artist's stamp on verso, along with other inventory markings. Artist's name written on edge of canvas. Presented in an ornate wood frame with a linen liner and fillet. Canvas size: 18"H x 24"W William Henry Blackman (American, b. 1930) was born in San Diego, CA in 1930. He spent most of his early years in West Los Angeles. Blackman began painting at age 12. In high school he majored in art so he could experiment with various mediums to find ways to interpret his ideas. In December of 1948 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. He studied at Woodbury College where he learned advertising and graphic arts. In 1960 he bought a home with his wife Shirley in the San Fernando Valley and worked as an advertising manager. His position put him in contact with art directors and they would lunch together and then visit various art galleries in the area. He began oil painting again as a hobby. In 1964 he made an important contact through an associate at his agency. This person was a vice-president at Aaron Brothers Galleries and purchased paintings for them. They had showrooms in various major cities and sold original framed paintings to art galleries and furniture stores. He said they could possibly sell some of his seascapes so Bill began painting in his spare time. Gradually, they sold more than he could produce so Bill made the decision to leave the advertising business and devote his time to painting. Note: the original Aaron Brothers Art Galleries Certificate included with the painting. In 1965 the Blackman's moved to Thousand Oaks, California. He began his career as a fine artist and to this day resides in Thousand Oaks. He contracted with Aaron Brothers to be his exclusive agents and began specializing in seascapes. After a few years he added landscapes and some other subjects. Bluebonnet landscapes...
