About the Item

Village. 1975, oil on cardboard, 54.5x70 cm Konstantin Andreyev (1914-1981) - painter. He had a distinctive flair for painting and already in the 1930ies cooperated in Leningrad publishing offices and occupied a position of head of the Bureau of Graphic Works in Aviation technical school. After the Great Patriotic War was transferred to Riga where he successfully graduated from Latvian Academy of Arts. Andreev's most meaningful painting works were created in the 1950ies and his own past and vision of those times affected his choice of genre. He resorted to the revolutionary and heroic themes of the Soviet era. Andreev gave preference to industrious ordinary people-builders, locksmiths, fitters who were patriots of their country and contributed a lot to the construction of socialism. Along with laborer's as his main heroes there prevails lyric motive and drive to beauty, something sublime and spiritual. His favorite color scheme - pastel shades with the accent on the black. His creative activities in the 1960ies were characterized by landscape painting “Three boats”, “Village of fishermen”, close to Latvian nature and lifestyle, still life pictures where he managed to skillfully combine shape, color scheme, dynamic brush, composition and expressiveness. Andreyev is also famous for his Graphic works in pencil, Indian ink The positive spirit, optimism pervade all his works.
