Conde, uninterested in painting his home town of Havana as it currently is, hearkens back to the heydays of Cuba, time of SOCIAL magazine. Conde has revived SOCIAL magazine, if only in his head, and is creating 240 new covers for the magazine. He will symbolically close the magazine on the date of the revolution. The artist often uses gold, silver and palladium leaf in the works to symbolize the power and wealth which Cuba once possessed. In this work, SOCIAL "I", a stylized woman from a bygone era has plucked the silver I from the word SOCIAL, in the background the pattern is representative of the ever present Cuban tiles.
