Biography
Coreen Mary Spellman (1905 - 1978)
Coreen Mary Spellman was a fine-art
teacher as well as a painter, designer, illustrator, lithographer and
muralist. Many of her paintings depicted human-made structures and
industrial landscapes in a style combining realism, precisionism and
abstraction. Often the central subject such as in "Railroad Signal" was
the only suggestion of humanity against a backdrop of stark Texas
landscape.
Of her painting these isolated subjects she said: "I
enjoy taking some rather obscure or unimportant subject or theme and
making something fine and important out of it . . . It always gives me
great pleasure to discover something which has been passed over as being
inadequate material". (Trenton 199)
Spellman was born in Forney,
Texas in 1905. At an early age she moved to Dallas, Texas and studied
under Vivian Aunspaugh before attending the College of Industrial Arts
(Texas Woman's University). She received a Master of Arts degree from
Columbia University and a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa,
Iowa City in 1942.
In addition, Spellman received a Carnegie
Scholarship for study at Harvard University, followed by studies with
Kenneth Hayes Miller, Vaclav Vytlacil, and Charles Wheeler...

The beautiful proposed work explains the typical iconographic characters of the painter called 'Master of the parrot', a conventional name used by critics to define an anonymous Dutch author of the 16th century.
More precisely, it is a painter of the southern Netherlands, active in Antwerp around 1530-50, so defined for the unmistakable parrot who often appears in his works of him. In religious iconography the parrot has often been used as a Marian symbol, as it was widespread that its most common verse was "Ave", that is, the greeting of the Archangel Gabriele to Mary at the time of the Annunciation.
Today the idea according to which the name 'master of the parrot' has not referred to a single painter, but rather a group that, based on the stylistic characters, carried out their training at the workshop of Pieter Coecke Van Aelst (Aalst (Aalst is widespread. 1502 - Brussels 1550), creating devotion paintings intended for a bourgeois client and concentrating their activity on a specific topic particularly requested by the contemporary market.

Flip Gaasendam tells with his paintings where he likes, there, in those places, he paints. His recognizable loose touch, carefully chosen colors, spherical landscapes, interiors and portraits have been part of the permanent collection of Galerie Bonnard for years.
We read somewhere that Flip Gaasendam has a 'Flip Gaasendam veil' on his subjects. That is, we believe, a good description of the works of this highly esteemed artist. 'Because I am an aquarellist from home, I learned how to paint transparently in tone and tone. I also use that in my oil paints. My work is classified as post-impressionistic. When I paint, however, I forget everything about art history. I like a lot of things, from Alma Tadema to Andrew Wyeth, but I am a painter of today. It therefore goes too far to say that I consciously go back to the past. I work unorthodox. I do not apply the paint with a fixed method. I brush with wipes, use the palette knife, work with my hands, etc. That my palette is heavily controlled by the color green, is because I often make a painting blond with cobalt and ocher. My themes are often nostalgic and romantic. as a child, I thought the morning mist was beautiful, and with the light effect in the Groninger station restoration it is just as well. '
