By Mikael Levin

Located in Surfside, FL

Photo Image taken in black & white of Western Wall (Wailing Wall) Kotel Hamaaravi in Jerusalem Israel. Hand signed, dated and titled. From very small edition of just 5 prints. (American-Israeli) Born in New York City, Mikael Levin grew up in Israel, the United States and France. He attended Williams College and received a B.A. in Film and Photography from Hampshire College in 1976 before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Levin's first published project was Silent Passage (1985), a series of romantic, reflective landscape photographs inspired by a pond in Sweden. This was followed by several other series, including Les Quatre Saisons du Territoire, a study of the changes in land use in western France; Borders, which focused on the political, practical, and conceptual transformation of national borders in contemporary Europe; and War Story, Levin's reconstruction of the journey his father, the war correspondent Meyer Levin, made while traveling with the photographer Eric Schwab during World War II. Meyer Levin wrote of these experiences in In Search (1950), which described his view of the final battles of World War II and the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps in 1944-45. Levin photographed sites his father and Schwab had visited as they appear today. These photographs and passages from the elder Levin's writings formed an installation work at ICP in 1997, and were also published as a book. Levin's most recent project, Common Places: Cultural Identity in the Urban Environment, considers the relationship between the past and present in the urban environments of four European cities: Katrineholm, Cambrai, Erfurt, and Thessaloniki. Although inflected differently in each series, Mikael Levin's photographs have in common their interest in the emotional, intellectual, and historical significance of landscape. His work ignites landscape's capacity simultaneously to recall and overwrite the events of the past, especially in works such as War Story and Common Places. His photographs represent a new approach to landscape photography that reinvigorates this traditional genre. Lisa Hostetler Handy et al. Reflections in a Glass Eye: Works from the International Center of Photography Collection, New York: Bulfinch Press in association with the International Center of Photography, 1999 Mikael Levin has been exhibited widely in the US and in Europe, including solo exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, Paris, 2010, the Berardo Museum, Lisbon, 2009, the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, 2003, the International Center of Photography, New York, 1997, and Fundación Mendoza, Caracas, 1980. "Don't Wine, " Original Surreal Serigraph by Paula Schuette Kraemer & Bill Weege

By Paula Schuette Kraemer

Located in Milwaukee, WI

"Don't Wine" is a mixed media piece, predominately a serigraph, by Paula Schuette Kramer and Bill Weege. Both artists signed in pencil in the lower right, and the title is in the lower left. It is one of a an edition of 50. The print is an explosion of bright colors, but red, blue, and green dominated the composition as they fade through the background. A blue figure climbs up a ladder out of an apple, hefting a large wine bottle overhead, which they pour out into the sea of wine. A man, woman, and long-necked orange bird also look out from the apple, reading for the stem of a floating bunch of green grapes. A group surrounds the grapes with their heads and shoulders above the water, eating the fruit. Birds fly through the background, dodging wine glasses and a vase of flowers that seem to be tumbling from a flying carpet. The entire image feels very surreal. Art size: 12" x 10" Frame size: 19 1/4" x 17" Paula Schuette Kraemer is an independent artist living in Madison, Wisconsin...

Little Girl Standing

By Philippe Chambault

Located in Pasadena, CA

Philippe Chambault The artist was born August 9, 1930, in Châtenay-Malabry (Hauts-de-Seine), where he did his primary schooling. Then he studied art at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, and especially at the woodcarving workshop. In 1954, he entered the studio of the sculptor Georges Serraz (the author of Christ-Roi des Houches), and he replaced Henri Dunand, who returned to Vallorcine to run the family business (this is also his friendship with the latter who is the cause of his installation as a secondary residence in Vallorcine, from 1961). He meets the sculptor Louis Derbré, become one of the leaders of the figurative renewal, and befriends him. It is at his instigation that he participates in different salons. He won two national awards: the Fénéon Fellowship in 1956 and the Vikings Prize in 1957. In 1961, he joined J. Balme, a medal publisher in Saumur. Since then, he has created the creations of this house: commemorative medals. On the other hand, Philippe Chambault has kept a small activity as an independent sculptor, often in sacred art. His most important work, created for a Strasbourg seminar, is a three-meter-high wooden and copper crucifix...

A fine recent piece from the artist's output responding to a small scale attention, post Covid / Pandemic. The way nature/cosmos will always triumph on any scale.. Mark Karasick, born in 1959 and raised in Canada, attended Art College in Toronto. He was introduced to encaustic painting in 1983 and has since continued to experiment with this Greco-Roman technique, mostly known through the Egyptian mummy portraits from Fayum and Hawara. In 1989, during his first visit to Italy, his work came to the attention of Swiss-Italian collector Signor Carlo Monzino, who sponsored Karasick to remain in Italy for five years of continued research and practice. Karasick has exhibited his works in solo and group exhibitions across North America, Asia and Europe. And in Canada and London, he has exhibited alongside artists such as :His most recent exhibition took place at the National Gallery of Sweden. Here for your consideration is one of the last paintings completed by the well known Russian/American artist, Nahum Tschacbasov. Acrylic paint on canvas. Signed lower left and dated 1982. Condition is excellent. Presently unframed. Provenance: Estate of the artist Nahum Tschacbasov. Biography : Russian-American artist Nahum Tschacbasov (1899-1984) is known for his cubo-surrealistic works which feature a strong psychological element. Some of his work bears a resemblance to work of another Russian-American artist--David Burliuk. He was somewhat of a late starter, moving to Paris in 1932 to study under Adolph Gottlieb, Marcel Gromaire and Fernand Leger. He had his first exhibition in Paris in 1934. He then returned to the US where he joined Rothko and Gottlieb at the Galery Seccession. He was one of the co-founders of The Ten, a group of social conscious abstract painters which included Rothko, Gottlieb, Joseph Solman and Ilya Bolotowsky, among others. In 1944, he began to work at Stanley Hayter's Atelier 17, a center for surrealistic ideas. Between 1936 and 1943, he had five one-man exhibitions at the ACA Galleries and participated in five group shows. He also exhibited at the Whitney, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Knox Albright Museum, the Chicago Institute of Fine Art and Corcoran, among others. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Met, the Whitney, the Brooklyn Museum and the Jewish Museum. Tschacbasov has been the subject of two recent retrospective at Fletcher Gallery, Woodstock, NY and Arthur Kalaher...
