Tom Scheerer has practically defined seaside style in the islands for generations of lucky beachcombers, and this pool house in the tropics is a prime example. Bright and bathing-suit friendly — Perennials outdoor fabrics were used throughout — it sneaks in refinements like pickled pecky-cypress paneling, cane-patterned side tables and and lyrical custom bamboo “comfort seating,” as the designer terms it, made by Bamboo & Rattan, in West Palm Beach.
Stealing a fair bit of attention is the encaustic painting above the sofa, sourced by chance, Scheerer says, “long after the fabrics and rug were ordered.” Pure kismet — that’s the easy way decorating comes together in the islands.
