A French Neoclassical commode, with hidden secretary and original hardware, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique commode from France gives the appearance of being a three drawer chest at first glance. However, discreetly hidden behind the upper "drawer" is in fact a fall-front, which opens to reveal a small writing desk with three open cubbies for organization within. The lower portion of the chest houses two full-sized drawers. The rectangular-shaped top has pronounced and rounded front corners, which carry through down the side posts and are flute-carved. Each drawer front is adorn with brass trim and retains the original brass (and really great) hardware; a pair of rectangular bail pulls with a beautiful Neoclassic escutcheon set at center. This commode is presented upon conical legs with exaggerated tops that canopy over their tapered feet. The rich fruitwood has a wonderful old patina throughout. This antique mirror from France has a rectangular-shaped mirrored glass center, with nicely carved wood frame featuring a curled acanthus leaf and shell at top/center, just above the upper cornice which is comprised of a straight/linear molding. The sides and bottom are framed with decorative trim molding with foliage accents. The top and bottom mirror surround have thicker boards extending outward, creating more length to the piece. The glass mirror (not original) is beveled. The wood frame is primarily soft gold tones along the trim, with flat board in a gray/blue with nice areas of wear and patina. This piece has a rectangular-shaped top which slightly overhangs the case that is fitted with three small drawers set horizontally above a pair of doors at bottom (which open to a shelf on the inside, maximizing the storage potential of this piece). This chest is presented upon a pair of rail legs at either end with accolade carved skirt, turning to bracket-style front feet, and a single shapely carved foot/brace at front center of skirt that adds just enough lift/space between the case and the floor. A Chinese leather-wrapped wooden trunk with brass and nail-head accents from the 19th century, and raised on a vintage wood stand. This coffer from China has a rectangular-shape body, decorated with brass banding nicely outlining and defining the edges, brass nail-head stud accents, and pulls at either short end. The brass is a wonderful contrast to the warm, patina of the leather. It gains height by being raised and displayed upon a vintage wood base with squared legs and petite inward-turned feet.
