Extraordinary Museum Quality Yves Saint Laurent Early Haute Couture coat from fall/winter 1970 in a Russian style which predates his Opera Ballets Russes collection by half a decade. The cossack styled long coat of black heavy suede embroidered in black silk braid, soutache and chenille floss. Hand made buttons of coiled soutache over metal domes end at the waist. Completely Haute Couture in concept and manufacture with so many differing subtle textures creating the interest in only one tone. . . Black. An important example of how early on, YSL was able to read the culture of the moment to elevate bohemian street looks to the highest standards of construction, style and elegance.
