Large Asian Burmese brass ceremonial bowl with silver and copper inlaid with the ten Hindu Avatars of Vishnu.
Fine example of Tanjore work, this brass bowl that has been overlaid with alternating copper and silver chased plaques, with high quality in detail executed in mixed metal repoussé with contrasting patination, showing Hindu deities. The base is engraved with a lotus flower motif.
(This type of work is known as Tanjore work, after the south Indian city where much of this work was executed.)
The depictions on the main plaques are believed to relate to those seen carved in relief on rock on the façade off the Great Temple (Brihadisvara) in Tanjore.

Taken from “Femme à tête de roses" (1935)” 1935 (Woman with a head of roses). It was sufficient for this sculpture to be made as a three dimensional piece, remaining faithful to every detail in Dalí’s painting.
During the 1930s in Paris, Salvador Dalí surrounded himself with a circle of friends involved in the application of art to varied disciplines, above and beyond the study of pure pictorial art. Jean-Michel Frank, a furniture maker and decorator of recognized prestige in the Paris of those years, was on very good terms with Dalí and together they worked on several ideas. The Bracelli lamp which we present here is a classic design after Jean-Michel’s manner of designing and working, adopted by Dalí for his house at Portlligat. Amongst Dalí ’s specific furnishing projects, and constituting another for his curriculum vitae as a designer, may be counted the garden furnishings for his Portlligat house, the complete architecture of the Night Club (garotte-shaped) for the Hotel Presidente in Acapulco (1957) and another project for a bar in California in the ‘forties.
As shown by the small selection now produced and included in this catalogue, Dalí ’s work was not restricted to the traditional furnishing elements, but included tap fittings, handles, door-pulls, printed fabrics and objets of indeterminate use.
In the 1990s a group of experts, led by Oscar Tusquets, set themselves the task of turning the furniture Dalí had drawn for Jean-Michel Frank into reality. Amongst these items were the Leda chair...

Qing Dynasty 19th Century Jewelry Cabinet with Star-Carved Shelf
Located in Yonkers, NY
A Chinese Qing Dynasty period jewelry cabinet from the 19th century with star-carved open shelf, double doors, large brass medallion lock and carved apron. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this jewelry cabinet features a narrow rectangular top with recessed panel, overhanging a lovely façade. An open shelf surrounded by a carved décor showcasing two birds surrounding a central star, makes up the upper portion of the cabinet. Below, a pair of double doors, fitted with a large traditional brass medallion with ornate pulls, open to reveal a small storage space. The cabinet is raised on four straight legs connected to one another through a carved apron in the front. We review all of our pieces and address issues we may find before they leave for your home; however, this is an antique piece, and as such it will keep its character and some imperfections, which is the quintessence of antique and vintage furniture.
