A large and powerful Chinese famille rose enameled porcelain "Five Dragon" meiping vase, modern, China.
The oversized vase of traditional meiping form, with a splayed foot supporting a baluster shaped body with high shoulders, short, narrow neck, and rolled mouth rim.
The large vase decorated with five dragons molded in relief. Their bodies painted in vibrant overglaze famille rose enamels of reds, greens, yellows and turquoise.
The dragons portrayed dancing in the sky among flames and clouds. Their bodies twisting and writhing, claws extended, tails coiled, some with mouths open in triumphant roars. The main dragon in red, and portrayed to more directly face the viewer.
The dragons dance against a white ground sky. The blank sky broken up by overglaze red painted stylized clouds and flames. The foot decorated with a band of crashing waves. A stylized lotus blossom surrounds the base of the neck. The neck with a band of scrolling flowers and vines against a yellow ground.

This outstanding late 19th century Japanese Satsuma porcelain covered temple jar has a traditional form with a domed lid. The piece features exquisite hand painted decoration which includes brightly hued flowers and associated foliage along with highly detailed jewel-toned butterflies with gilt highlights, all of which are on a shaded blue ground. The jar and lid also bear large chrysanthemums executed in heavy white enamel with underlying hints of green. The collar of the jar and edge of the lid have wide gilt bands finished with fine incised linear decoration that has been accented with blue, black and white enamel. A Rare Yue Celadon Cong-Shaped Vase, Western Jin Dynasty(3-5th C)

This vase is an exceptionally rare piece and likely the only known example of a Cong-shaped vase from the Jin Dynasty. While some experts may attribute this work to the Song Dynasty or later periods based on its form, it is, in fact, a much earlier creation from the 3rd to 4th century CE during the Jin Dynasty. It was imported from Hong Kong in the late 1990s and was acquired by our gallery as part of a collection that included other Jin Dynasty Yue celadon pieces.
The vase features a cylindrical form with a square (方形) design and geometric incised patterns. While these design elements became more refined and sophisticated during the Song Dynasty (960~1279), their origins trace back much earlier, as evidenced by Cong-shaped jade artifacts dating as far back as 2,500 B.C.E. A beautiful, perfectly shaped antique Bizen ware Chawan tea bowl by renowned Japanese master potter/artist Kaneshige Toyo (1896-1967) featuring a unique natural, organic forming ash glaze. Kaneshige is universally considered to be the founder of modern Bizen pottery.
In 1956, Kaneshige was certified as a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Heritage) for his work in Bizen Ware pottery/ceramics. Bizen Ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from the Bizen province, presently a part of the Okayama prefecture. It is considered one of the Six Ancient Japanese Kilns (along with Echizen ware, Seto ware, Shigaraki ware, Tamba ware, and Tokoname ware).
The piece is signed/ sealed on the base with one of Kaneshige's traditional incised marks.
A rather engaging and scarce work. Would be a fantastic addition to any Japanese/Asian pottery or Bizen Ware collection or eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting.
