This piece is a large cobalt-blue glazed dish from the Qing Dynasty(Yuan-Ming Prototype). The entire surface, including the interior and exterior walls, is coated in a rich and deep cobalt blue glaze. Characteristic signs of prolonged submersion in a marine environment are visible, including subtle loss of gloss (especially in the central and end area), a slight tackiness on the surface caused by salt exposure, and abrasion in areas where the glaze is thinner—distinct indicators of a shipwreck-recovered ceramic.
The exterior wall features dark underglaze floral designs that create a unique sense of visual depth. The unglazed base reveals a white porcelain body, consistent with the typical kaolin clay from Jingdezhen used during the late Ming and early Qing periods. The rim is thin and carefully finished, and the overall proportions and decorative composition reflect a high degree of balance and refinement. It is one of the large pieces from our gallery’s Yuan-Ming Style from Qing Dynasty collection, reimagining ceramics from pre-Qing dynasties recovered from underwater.

Common name: Genpachi (Genpachiro); go Shinmyo (from 1707), Baio (from 1707), Hogetsudo (from Genbun era, 1736-41), Tanchosai and Bunkaku (both from Enkyo era [?], 1744-8). Ukiyo-e painter, print artist and innovative print publisher, also author and illustrator early in his career. Studied haikai poetry under Tachiba (Shogetsudo) Fukaku (Sen'o, 1662-1753). Said to have been influenced by the work of Moronobu. and Kiyonobu., and his earliest dated work is a copy of Kiyonobu I's Illustrated Book of Courtesans of 1700. published by Kurihara Choemon in the eighth month of 170a. An unusual 18th century Burmese Arakan style red lacquered and richly gilt cast bronze figure of the Crowned Medicine Buddha, commonly referred to as Bhaishajyaguru.
The Supreme Healer is portrayed seated in vajrasana (full lotus position) upon a throne of nine elephants, symbolizing the practice of samatha, or calming the mind (mindfulness) - specifically the nine stages of calm abiding. The hand in his lap holds a jar of healing salve. His other hand rests gently on his knee in varada mudra, the gesture of wish fulfilling, offering a myrobalan seed, a fruit said to be capable of healing emotional ills.
