About the Item

For sale is the iconic Postmodern 'Model 5074' Oil & Vinegar set, designed by Ettore Sottsass and produced by Alessi, Italy in 1978 (this is a more recent edition). Released in the late 1970s, this piece embodies the vibrant spirit of Italian postmodern design. Crafted from glass with thermoplastic resin tops, the set balances functionality with playful artistry — a hallmark of Sottsass’ vision. Alessi, known for blending high design with everyday objects, perfectly captures Sottsass’ ability to turn simple dining rituals into a stylish experience. This is a piece for lovers of iconic design. This set is in good used condition, with the only issue of note, other than the usual age-related wear, being some rings on the stainless steel (Inox) base, where the glass bottles sit. The glass is clear and undamaged, and the holder retains the Alessi label. Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was a pioneering Italian architect and designer, celebrated for his influential role in shaping modern design. Best known as the founder of the Memphis Group in the 1980s, Sottsass pushed boundaries with bold colours, geometric forms, and an irreverent approach to traditional aesthetics. Throughout his career, he collaborated with legendary brands like Olivetti and Alessi, creating objects that were not just functional but deeply expressive. His work remains a symbol of creativity, innovation, and a fearless break from the norm.
