This is a very good English "RUMMER" drinking glass, which were originally drinking glasses used in English taverns in the late 18th and early 19th century.
The glass is handblown and made from lead glass, having a soft greyish colour. It has an ovoid bowl, well engraved with a band of swags and tails on a short wrythen stem, sitting on a conical foot, having a snapped off pontil below.
The bowl is also vertically cut with narrow panels which rise vertically from the stem and stop at the shoulder.
Overall a very good example of a Georgian drinking glass...

The use of rare and exotic materials such as the coconut became popular across Europe during the Middle Ages, when it was believed that these unique materials from distant lands possessed mystical powers. It was held that they could detect, and even deter, the effects of poison and as such were employed as drinking vessels, often mounted with ornate embellishments of silver. As more trade routes opened up during the 16th century, materials such as the coconut became more widely available, though still only afforded to the wealthy minority in Europe and England. And, while they eventually lost their appeal for their magical powers, coconuts proved an ideal material for cups and pots and retained their popularity as such. Two fine English Georgian, probably Staffordshire, child’s pearlware plates decorated with religious scenes and verse dating from the early 19th century. The finely potted plates are of octagonal shape both with relief molded fruit and floral designs to the rim, one hand painted and other simply glazed rim but with a pink lustre edge. Due to the edge patterning being the same we believe the plates to have originated from the same pottery. Both plates have printed religious scenes to the center with printed prayers, possibly as teaching aids for children. One has a scene of Christ rising from the dead with a prayer reading ‘Behold him rising from the grave. Behold him raised on high. He pleads his merit there to save Transgressor doom’d to die.’ The scene shows soldiers, some sleeping around the entrance to the tomb. The second plate shows a child reading...

This impressive wine jug, made in 1795 during the reign of King George III, is an artistic example of the work of the renowned silversmiths Peter and Ann Bateman. The jug rests on a curved base with an elegant fluted profile on the rim and is decorated with a surrounding frieze of leaf motifs in fine ‘bright-cut’ engraving.
The indented stem and the amphora-shaped body with vertically curved walls give the jug a classic look. The curved mouth rim with beak-shaped spout ensures harmonious lines, while the hinged lid is domed in the centre and crowned by a spherical knob. The curved wooden C-handle stylishly rounds off the design and provides a comfortable grip.
The wide frieze with leaf and flower motifs on the wall, executed in extremely fine ‘bright-cut’ engraving, is particularly noteworthy. The front of the jug is also engraved with initials, giving the piece a personal touch.
The wine jug bears a full set of London silver stamps on the underside, which prove its authenticity and the year of manufacture. Works by Peter and Ann Bateman are recognised for their high quality craftsmanship and can be found in major collections worldwide.
