Maximalism: Bold, Bedazzled, Gold, and Tasseled Interiors

A decadent and extravagant celebration of interior style, featuring more than 220 maximalist residential interiors, from the 1600s to the present day This unique visual collection celebrates the very best contemporary Maximalist interior design and makes the connection to a much longer historical tradition of excess. Maximalism is a style that has been with us, in one guise or another – for example, in the castles, palazzi, chateaux, and historic homes of bygone ages – for more than 400 years. This richly illustrated volume, with metallic gold ink used throughout, features the most extraordinary Maximalist interiors from all over the globe, from centuries past and present, transcending both time and geography. Chinese Export Blue & White Tea Bowl and Saucer, Neptune, the God of Sea
Located in Downingtown, PA
Chinese Export Porcelain European-subject Blue & White Tea Bowl and Saucer, Neptune, The God of The Sea, Dutch market, Yongzheng Period, Circa 1730-35 The Chinese Export porcelain, probably made for the Dutch market, depicts Neptune, the God of the Sea, standing with his triton in the center of the design with a number of other figures to his left and right with three large fish or whales at his feet. The lower section of the design depicting the sea. The border of each piece with a repeating diaper design. Dimensions: Saucer: 4 1/2 inches diameter x 3/4 inch high (11.53cm diameter x 1.91cm high); Cup: 2 3/4 inches diameter x 1 3/4 inches high (6.99cm diameter x 4.45cm high). The design is after an etching called `The Realm of Neptune` by Frederick Bloemaert (c.1610-c.1669) completed between 1650-1656, after a drawing by his father Abraham Bloemaert (1566–1651). This is a Baroque design which is only found in blue and white on Chinese porcelain, it occurs on fine grained porcelain and Chinese soft-paste porcelain. Both dinner services and tea services were produced. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a plate in their collection, Helena Woolworth McCann Collection, Purchase, Winfield Foundation Gift, 1966 (Ass. # 66.27.5). Reference: Jorg states "The depiction of Neptune, the God of the Sea of classical mythology occurs in several varieties on Chine de Commande from the 1740`s onwards. How well the design sold is illustrated by an order from 1778, when they sent a chocolate cup with this design as a model for similarly decorated plates. However, the Dutch merchants...

Montecito Style: Paradise on California's Gold Coast
By Phaidon
Located in New York City, NY
A privileged peek at the homes and gardens of the exclusive Southern California enclave, Montecito. The seaside town of Montecito is often overshadowed by its neighbor Santa Barbara—which is generally how its residents like it. Though home and refuge to numerous celebrities, Montecito’s intentional cultivation of a low-key profile has allowed for a unique community to emerge, and with it, a multifaceted interior and garden design culture. Montecito Style: Paradise on California’s Gold Coast is the first book to present twenty houses and landscapes in an eclectic range of styles and rich architectural legacy that coalesce into a quintessential "California style." The residences featured in this book reflect the diversity of design that has defined California living for more than a century: early standard-setters by George Washington Smith and an Andalusian-style abode by his protégé (and Santa Barbara’s first licensed female architect) Lutah Maria Riggs, Beaux-Arts mansions, converted carriage houses, nouveau palazzi, low-slung midcentury modern abodes, an iconic concrete-and-glass house from the 1970s, and even a studio apartment...
