About the Item

This elegant Thonet armchair, dating from the early 1900s, is a rare example of Art Nouveau design produced in Thonet’s New York workshop. While most Thonet pieces were made in Europe, this U.S.-made version reflects the company’s early international expansion and is especially sought-after by collectors. Crafted from steam-bent beechwood, it features Thonet’s iconic sinuous lines and original handwoven cane on both seat and backrest, in excellent condition. The curved arms and legs create a light, fluid silhouette that embodies the spirit of Jugendstil. With minimal hardware and refined craftsmanship, this chair represents a key moment in design history — when industrial production met artisanal quality. A rich patina and light wear consistent with age complete its character. A sophisticated piece for both classic and modern interiors. This chair is in good antique condition with a rich patina and only minor wear consistent with its age. It would make a timeless addition to any refined interior, whether classic or contemporary.
