About the Item

Originally designed circa 1958 and produced around 1965 by OCA Industrias Reunidas, the Mucki Bench by Sergio Rodrigues is a rare and versatile piece crafted in massive Brazilian wood and veneer. With its low, slatted design and timeless proportions, this bench also functions as a coffee table. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from Galeria Modernista SA and provenance tracing it to a residence in Campinas, São Paulo. Restoration was limited to recreating screw covers to match the original design, preserving patina and signs of age such as sun fading and wood variation. These elements contribute to its historic character while ensuring long-term integrity and value. Sergio Rodrigues (1927–2014) was a pivotal figure in Brazilian modernist design, known for combining modernist aesthetics with Brazilian cultural identity and craftsmanship. He gained international acclaim for his use of native woods and his commitment to comfort and functionality. Rodrigues’s work, including iconic pieces like the Mucki Bench, helped define mid-century Brazilian furniture design. Today, his designs are featured in major museum collections and sought after by collectors worldwide.
