About the Item

This Finn Juhl model 133 or "spade" lounge chair is not only beautiful and comfortable, but historically important. Designed in 1953, it was the first industrially produced chair made of teak, a wood Juhl liked for it's rich, warm color and ease of finishing (he liked a simple oil finish on the wood). A new kind of saw blade had to be developed since ordinary blades would dull quickly due to the natural oils in the wood. It was Juhl's use of teak that popularized the wood among Scandinavian designers and forever linked it to Danish modern. This early example has a been reupholstered in Maharam Divina Melange by Kvadrat.
