Pair of Finn Juhl #45 Chairs by Baker

About the Item

Once described as the most beautiful chair in the world, the number 45 chair is certainly one of Finn Juhl's most important designs. Acknowledged as the father of Danish modern design, the architect worked closely with cabinetmaker Niels Vodder to develop his innovative designs. The 45 chair was groundbreaking for the visual separation of the seat and back from the frame of the chair. Inspired by abstract modern art, Juhl designed a sculpted frame with graceful fluid lines that required the advanced skills of a seasoned craftsman. In 1951 Finn Juhl visited Baker Furniture– impressed with the skill of their wood workers, he licensed his designs to be manufactured in the US. This pair have beautiful frames of walnut with a rich patina from age and use. The original silk upholstery has reached the end of its life, so the chairs are waiting to be reupholstered. A design this beautiful and comfortable truly deserves it's status as an important icon of Mid-Century Modern Danish design. 33"h X 28"w X32"d
