Ettore Sottsass Montenegro Carrara Marble & Granite Console for Ultima Edizione

About the Item

Ettore Sottsass Montenegro Carrara Marble & Granite Console for Ultima Edizione 1980s The Montenegro console table, created by Ettore Sottsass in 1980s, is a rare and collectible piece that showcases the designer's impressive eye for proportion, form, and color. Its unique design makes it an excellent fit for contemporary interiors inspired by art, minimalism, and rustic modernism. The console table has two white marble bases that support a rectangular granite top, with pedestals with a typical wavy shape of Sottsass' design, creating movement and lightness. Its playful structure creates a glamorous effect, perfect for minimal and charming entrances or living rooms. The console table is an ideal addition to the collections of design enthusiasts. Ettore Sottsass was an architect, industrial designer, philosopher, and provocateur who revolutionized the aesthetics and technology of modern design in the late 20th century. He was the oldest member of the Memphis Group, a design collective formed in Milan in 1980, which included Alessandro Mendini, Michele de Lucchi, Michael Graves, and Shiro Kuramata. The group countered the staid, black-and-brown "corporatized" modernism of the 1970s with bold, colorful, and minimal designs for furniture, glassware, ceramics, and metalwork. Their work was functional and shocking, using inexpensive materials such as plastic laminates decorated to resemble exotic finishes like animal skins. One of Sottsass's most iconic designs, the Ultrafragola mirror, embodies many of the collective's postmodern ideals with its conspicuously curved plastic shell and radical pops of pink neon.
