Campaign Tray Tables by Stewart MacDougall for Drexel, 1960s, Refinished, Signed

About the Item

Renowned designers Stewart MacDougall and Kipp Stewart created the folding campaign tray table for Drexel Furniture Company in the 1960s as part of the 'Declaration' line of furniture. Constructed in walnut, with a removable tray top and a folding X-hinge base, this versatile piece encompasses the true nature of portable campaign furniture. See elegant details in the design, such as carved finials at each axis and carved handles on the trays. Each of these tables features a Drexel makers stamp underneath the tray along with date stamp, indicating that these are early productions of the design in the early to mid 1960s, perfect for collectors and interior designers. This design has erupted in popularity in the decade. Initially popularized in the 18th century for military officers' use as they moved from camp to camp, MacDougall reinvented this utilitarian style in a completely new, sleek, midcentury modern light. Similar to Edward Wormley for Dunbar and Harvey Probber who also designed folding tray tables. These occasional tables by Stewart MacDougal and Kipp Stewart for Drexel would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 21.5" x W 21" x D 20" CONDITION: Excellent refinished condition ready for immediate use.

Original Production John Dickinson Galvanized Steel Drape End Table, Signed
By John Dickinson
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This exceptionally rare and high-sought after collectors item is the John Dickinson model #107 drape end table with trompe-l'œil fabric motif in galvanized steel and brass binding. This piece of functional fine art is suited for a design collector, art investor or an interior designer looking to impress a hard-to-please client who wants nothing but the best of the best. This iconic 1970s American design by John Dickinson was later produced by Sutherland, and even the Sutherland examples have great worth and collectibility. But nothing compares to the originals, like this one. An interior steel frame with adjustable feet gives this table ample sturdiness and is suited for regular every-day use - but can also be used as an impressive stand-alone sculpture. Original John Dickinson pieces are exceptionally hard to find. This example of the galvanized steel trompe l'oeil draped tablecloth table...
