French Symbolic Expressionism Oil Painting Depicting French Revolution
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Painting oil painting on canvas is made with mixed technique brush and spatula; the author used traditional brushes for a first draft giving shape to the whole drawing with an expert, loose wrist play and with sure and decisive brushstrokes; the representation, in this case, is not a pure exercise of virtuosity, in fact, the author communicates us his intimate essence manifesting it through the language of colors, shapes, and composition. The artist finished his work with the technique of spatula painting, named after the protagonist's instrument, redistributing the colors densely and consistently, making the painting take on a special body and depth. The painting is signed but we are unable to give definite information about the author, however, we confirm its extraordinary aesthetic and engaging vividness; the painting was made in 1989 in the author's studio in Paris whose intentions were to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution (1789). The painter was inspired by both French Expressionism and Symbolism; Expressionism exalts the emotional value of art; it is the artist's desire to communicate inner feelings, while with Symbolism, painters tend to go beyond the objective representation of reality to focus instead on the subjective vision, in which inner feelings, emotions, and experiences are evoked above all. Our painting is overflowing with the symbolism of the French Revolution; it is practically an evocative essence of it. This important and overwhelming historical event is powerfully present in the soul of the artist who wanted to overbearingly communicate to us his deepest emotions by transposing them entirely in the painting with strong and vivid colors, he did not want to simply allude or hint but to express, indeed "shout" his own deep interiority. In his intentions, the painting schematically and symbolically represents a standard-bearer of the French Revolution wearing the classic "Phrygian" hat. The author used only the three colors white, red, and blue that characterized the flags of the French Revolution; they were the new banners, which opposed the traditional emblem of the monarchy, the lilies on a white field. Three were the colors because three were the goals of the Revolution: liberty, equality, and fraternity, and they represented the three classes into which French society of the time was divided: the clergy (blue), the nobility (white), and the third state (red). The "Phrygian" cap (Latin for pileus) painted in red in the painting also has a high symbolic value, In Roman times it was worn by the " freedmen" to show that they were now freed slaves but in the French Revolution it became the very symbol of Liberty; a similar cap was worn by the freed Marseilles convicts in 1792, and was the symbol of the Jacobins during the French Revolution. Due to this fact, in addition to its historical meaning of freedom, it was later adopted as a symbol of the revolution itself, a symbol immortalized on the "Marianne," the very emblem of France, in Eugène Delacroix's famous painting "Liberty Leading the People...

ANDREW MANDOLENE (b. 1960) Andrew Mandolene is one of those rare talents, who hadn’t picked up a paint brush in 40 years since graduating from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After a successful career as an Art Director, he determinedly took to the canvas in 2020 as though he had been painting for years developing a style that he felt certain defined him as a unique artist. Mandolene’s style of painting evolves from his sensibility of scale, form and color. The tension felt in his compositions combined with that strong color sense keeps him up at night with excitement. His creative space is shared in a Palm Springs warehouse with his other passion...classic car collecting...

Jennifer Printz "Quietus II" Prints, Graphite and Inks on Antique Paper, 2017
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary artist Jennifer Printz "Quietus II" series of six prints blends photography, graphite, and Epson Ultrachrome inks on antique papers. The work is matted and framed in wood, protected with anti-static, non-glare Plexiglass glazing. Jennifer Printz, an artist with a love for the poetic, carefully selects titles for her pieces and exhibitions to evoke multiple meanings. One such significant title in her work is "Quietus," symbolizing resolution and rest. She chose this title to reflect the artwork's creation during a sabbatical, a period of rejuvenation and tranquility. "Quietus" also represents her core artistic motivation – emphasizing the importance of stillness and calm in life. In the hustle and bustle of life, we often miss out on essential experiences unless we allow ourselves to be quiet and introspective. Jennifer believes that finding solace is crucial, and she invites viewers to appreciate its significance. Her work provides a meditative space, offering a brief moment of quiet reflection. In 2017, she was interviewed by Jenine Culligan, the director at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University, where her solo exhibition sabbatical work was titled "An Almost Unnoticed Quietus." This title cleverly connects "quietus" with "almost unnoticed," highlighting the themes of meditation and mindfulness. Through these practices, Jennifer uncovers profound aspects of our world and emotions often overlooked in our hurried lives. Meditation has taught her to appreciate the moments when we are on the verge of giving up, as these are often when unexpected greatness can unfold. Peter Buchman "Exit Strategy”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2025
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "Exit Strategy" is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. It's a part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist culls linguistic phrases in a journey to immortalize how wonderfully other cultures have contributed to the American Diaspora. To explain that Buchman's word paintings are 'A Figure of Speech' is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. As far as "Exit Strategy" goes, Peter Buchman tends to dream a lot when he sleeps. When it's a really deep sleep, he is usually in an espionage kind of caper. Maybe James Bond meets film noir. He doesn't know why, but he's woken himself up running in place, sweating, and truly believing that he's killed someone. It is such a relief to sit up in bed and find that nothing's really happened, and all is well in his little corner of the world. With that said, there's a twisted, funny side to all of this, which leads him to something that everyone is familiar with: getting out of a sticky situation and how to address it. Facing it head-on and with a sense of humor is his default. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter's artwork has been exhibited throughout the US since 1981 including the Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Cooperstown Museum (NY), Delaware Museum of Art, Kidder Smith Gallery (MA) and Vered Gallery (East Hampton, NY). His work is included in the portfolios of collectors including Beth Rudin DeWoody, Nicole Miller, David Yurman and Howard Schultz...

Richard Texier Mixed Media Painting
By Richard Texier
Located in New York, NY
Fantastic mixed media painting by Contemporary French Artist Richard Texier. A combination of watercolor, ink and collage on paper this work was is called Marges. Signed upper right corner and dated. This painting was once part of GE's corporate art collection. Colors may vary slightly. Image size is 13 inches high by 8.50 inches wide. Today Texier is regarded as one of the best living artists of his generation. He began painting at a young age and his keen interest in the history of astronomy is largely inspired by the creation of his own personnel cosmography. Known for both his paintings and sculptures he has installations throughout the world. His works are to be found in numerous important public and private collections, both in France and abroad. Many major museums around the world have exhibited his work including the National Museum of Taiwan, the National Museum of Luxembourg, the Marine Museum in Paris, the Botanical Museum of Brussels, the House of Culture Moscow and the Shanghai museum of Fine Art. He has also graced the covers of Decorating Magazines especially in France. HIs current contemporary large scale paintings retail between $28,000 and $64,000 both at auction houses like Christie's and Artcurial as well as galleries. His sculptures have even higher price points including two that reached $404,00 and $915,00. In addition he has also worked with Daum creating unique glass sculptures.
