Peter Buchman "Star Wars”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's 'Star Wars' is created using laser-cut plexiglass, acrylic medium, and enamel on wood. It's part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist gathers linguistic phrases to immortalize the valuable contributions of other cultures to the American Diaspora. To describe Buchman's word paintings as 'A Figure of Speech' is an understatement of the profound soulfulness they embody. They bear the marks of the artist's hand but also carry the collective spirit of many who came before him. These words derive from familiar phrases, music albums, his unique brand of irony, and the very essence of the human form. As for 'Star Wars,' what is there to say? It's a truly amazing work of art, so vast and entertaining. Could Peter Buchman give it a twist? A client gave him the idea to explore the possibilities – the stories, the characters, and the famous quotes. All Peter could recall was the opening sequence, where the text tells the story somewhere in the galaxy, and the text fades into the darkness in perspective. What could he do with it? How could he pay homage to something as immense as Oedipus or '2001: A Space Odyssey'? He knew it had to be overwhelmingly large with a dreamy, mysterious texture. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter's artwork has been exhibited throughout the US since 1981 including the Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Cooperstown Museum (NY), Delaware Museum of Art, Kidder Smith Gallery (MA) and Vered Gallery (East Hampton, NY). Peter Buchman "Note to Self”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's 'Note to Self' is created using laser-cut plexiglass, acrylic medium, and enamel on wood. For this specific piece, 'Note to Self,' Peter is fascinated by what he said - she said and all of that back-and-forth cross-communication. Phrases like 'word on the street' and 'news at eleven'—we are all familiar with this kind of language, but how does it make us feel to see it stacked on top of each other? Writing lists, scribbling notes, verbatim, talking to ourselves or our partners... where does it all get us? Everywhere? Nowhere? This communication and street slang intrigues him. Whether he hears it or actually sees the words, the language grabs his attention, and he wants to discuss it again... with you, the viewer. Will you engage? Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. Peter Buchman "Pardon my French”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "Pardon my French" is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. It's a part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist culls linguistic phrases in a journey to immortalize how wonderfully other cultures have contributed to the American Diaspora. To explain that Buchman's word paintings are 'A Figure of Speech' is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. Peter Buchman "Exit Strategy”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "Exit Strategy" is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. As far as "Exit Strategy" goes, Peter Buchman tends to dream a lot when he sleeps. When it's a really deep sleep, he is usually in an espionage kind of caper. Maybe James Bond meets film noir. He doesn't know why, but he's woken himself up running in place, sweating, and truly believing that he's killed someone. It is such a relief to sit up in bed and find that nothing's really happened, and all is well in his little corner of the world. With that said, there's a twisted, funny side to all of this, which leads him to something that everyone is familiar with: getting out of a sticky situation and how to address it. Facing it head-on and with a sense of humor is his default. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter Buchman "Now Showing”, Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's 'Now Showing' is created using laser-cut plexiglass, acrylic medium, and enamel on wood. It's part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist gathers linguistic phrases to immortalize the valuable contributions of other cultures to the American Diaspora. To describe Buchman's word paintings as 'A Figure of Speech' is an understatement of the profound soulfulness they embody. They bear the marks of the artist's hand but also carry the collective spirit of those who came before him. These words derive from familiar phrases, music albums, his unique brand of irony, and the very essence of the human form. 'Now Showing' draws inspiration from Film Noir, a genre that held a profound influence on Peter's film and cinematic journey. The strident and punctual dialogue always fascinated him, along with the black and white director's perspectives. As an artist who spent hours drawing and sketching in pencil, the dramatic black and white hardened scenes just gripped him. He wanted smoke and spit and to rough something up. He wanted to emulate those textures, those scenes, that gut reaction with danger but in a poetic sense. The work reflects someone who is under interrogation, spilling their guts out, or just spilling the beans. It's a collection of phrases Peter unearthed or scratched out from movies or vintage pulp...

Peter Buchman "Once Upon a Time", Voice-Over Paintings Series, 2024
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "Once Upon a Time" is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. It's a part of his Voice-Over series. To explain that Buchman’s word paintings are ‘A Figure Of Speech’ is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. For this piece, in a manner of speaking, we are all running out of time, however Buchman’s soliloquy and ironic eye has fun with the notion that with humor and self effacement in a street-run-on sentence kind of rap he can get away with making fun and pointing out the obvious. Which isn’t always so obvious. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "No Portrait, No Landscape" white painting is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. To explain that Buchman’s word paintings are ‘A Figure Of Speech’ is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. Mitchell's early years were spent in the company of the fashionable and famous surrounding his beautiful playwright mother, who was twice married to the great impressario Leon Leonidoff, Senior Producer of the Radio City Music Hall. Peter Buchman : Heroine Neon
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary artist Peter Buchman's 'Heroine' neon is a provocative piece that blinks 3 different words randomly: Heroine-Hero-Heroin. The concept for this piece came from his love of words, storytelling, and movies. He is constantly sketching, writing and looking at words as part of his artistic process. So when the actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died Peter took a pause, because he was from his hometown - and mine. Then a light bulb went off in his head and the word heroine visually came to him. He instantly saw it's importance and versatility. Peter felt that Mr. Hoffman shined in front of the light and yet was engulfed in the darkness that had him tethered as well. The neon asks the question - Is there not light and darkness in all of us? The word 'Heroin' might have had a role in Mr. Hoffman's demise, yet he was a 'hero' of sorts to many. The role of the 'Heroine' and the 'Hero' has been explored throughout history through comedy and/or tragedy. Even in our own stories, these three words together have such a compelling power that Peter felt the need to find a way to communicate their significance through his art. He simply thought they needed to see the light of day. Signed with a Certificate of Authenticity from the artist. American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter's artwork has been exhibited throughout the US since 1981 including the Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Cooperstown Museum (NY), Delaware Museum of Art, Kidder Smith Gallery (MA) and Vered Gallery (Easthampton). Peter Buchman : Panel No 1
By Peter Buchman
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary artist Peter Buchman's 'Panel No 1' is made of wood, epoxy and enamel. This piece is like something you might already recognize, but then again it could be simply be something graphic, heavy, striking, yet contained. Maybe it registers as a domino or a hard semi-industrial element. However when the light hits it - it comes alive, and that's something completely unexpected. Signed, titled and dated on verso.
