This unique teak carved panel depicts Dayak Tribal mythology. The Dayak people are some hundreds of various native groups found in the interior rainforests of Borneo. This carving depicts the tree of life, which the Dayak people believe exists on “Linden Tarung”, a mythical rock island where they believe humans first came to existence. “Linden Tarung” is the ancient and ancestral home of the Dayak peoples. Amassed by the renowned husband-and-wife team of Helmut and Alison Gernsheim between 1945 and 1963, it contains an unparalleled range of images, beginning with the world's earliest-known photograph from nature, made by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826. It includes some 35,000 major and representative photographs from the 19th and 20th c; a research library of some 3,600 books, journals, and published articles; about 250 autographed letters and manuscripts; and more than 200 pieces of early photographic equipment. Its encyclopedic scope—as well as the expertise and taste with which the Gernsheims built the collection—makes the Gernsheim Collection one of the world's premier resources for the study and appreciation of the development of photography.
Published to coincide with a landmark exhibition staged by the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, which owns the collection, this book presents masterpieces of the collection, along with lesser-known images of great historical significance. Arranged in chronological order, this selection effectively constitutes a visual history of photography from its beginnings to the mid-20th c. Each full-page image is accompanied by an extensive annotation in which Roy Flukinger describes the photograph's place in the evolution of photography and also within the Gernsheim Collection. These SOFT GREY collage tiles are composed randomly from recycled wood remnants and when installed bathe any space with a warm feeling and texture which is meditative, sanded to a soft finish, and protected with lacquer and wax. The works convey an energized tranquility, a chaotic Brutalism from accidental beginnings.
PRICED BY THE SQUARE FOOT, these hardwood panels function both as decorative art and acoustic baffles in large spaces. No two panels are alike, each is a random collage and they can be hung in any order. The arrangement of tiles is entirely up to the client, becoming part of this process, selecting and arranging the tiles however they wish.
The collage tiles are sold in modular sizes and are priced by square feet. They can be ordered in 1x1, 1x2, and 2x2 foot sizes, the pricing is based on 1, 2, and 4 units respectively. The collages are made from recycled wood cuttings from furniture factories and mounted on 1/2" MDF board, trimmed square, and given a furniture finish with matte lacquer and wax.

The pintail surfboard is made of polyester resin; hand-shaped polyurethane foam and includes a digital Warhol print. It is in excellent condition with no dings and measures 20"W x 2.5"D x 98"H. The piece comes with a signed certificate of authentication and is #8 of 10 from series #1 of the "Artist Series". These boards currently retail in galleries for $14,000. Tim Bessell is known worldwide for hand-shaping quality surfboards. Based in San Diego, Bessell originally got the idea after coming across a series of Warhol skateboards by Alien Workshop. “I had seen the line of skateboards and I thought, nobody’s doing surfboards.”
The Andy Warhol Foundation, who owns the copyrights to the artist work, jumped on the idea to collaborate. “The project we have with Tim is totally different than the one we have with Absolut or Comme des Garçons or Dior or Converse. We have a shaper here who is also an artist, who is from San Diego, and whose own main inspiration is Andy Warhol. It’s so authentic.”
The popularity of the collaboration has grown at a fast pace, with one of the first works of the series was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
