Le Corbusier ‘Maison Du Brésil, Évolution Du Projet Le Corbusier-L.COSTA’ Print

About the Item

This poster is a Béton Brut favourite. The building it depicts was originally clad using a concrete technique known as ‘béton brut’ where the formwork of the moulding is retained on the finished surface providing a stark, rugged texture. The Maison du Bresil (1952) was a key example of Le Corbusier’s high-density residential design, and its function was to reflect the culture of Brazil. Located at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, the building functioned as a residence hall for Brazilian academics, students, and artists and it housed an exhibition space. Architecturally it recalled Le Corbusier’s previous masterworks: the 1932 Swiss Pavilion (in its use of concrete bolsters as foundations) and the 1952 Unite d’Habitation (in its polychrome façade). The Maison du Bresil was added to the list of French historic monuments in 1985. The poster depicts a schematic design of the façade with elegant lettering above and was created for an exhibition about the building in 1978.

Gerard Le Fe Fibreglass Chair for Prisunic Editions, France, circa 1970
By Prisunic
Located in London, GB
Prisunic editions was both a manufacturer and retailer founded in France during 1968. The company’s aim was to revolutionise the furniture industry within France offering the consumer a cutting edge product and retail experience. Prisunic editions sold its futuristic designs often from moulded plastic and fiberglass through a catalogue. Their approach was guided by a desire to create impactful design that was affordable to the masses. Their project attracted highly regarded designers from across Europe such as Marc Held, Gae Aulenti and Terence Conran. This chair’s form is very much a consequence of the moulding process employed. The chairs soft undulating curves are not an aesthetic decision per se but in fact the result of engineering. The chair is in good structural and cosmetic condition with minor signs of use and sits like a dream with our Marc Berthier Ozoo desk...
