Jean Michel Folon "L' Arbre" Serigraph for Gallerie Marquet, Paris, 1975
By Jean-Michel Folon
Located in San Carlos, CA
Gorgeous 1975 serigraph after Jean Michel Folon's beautiful "l'arbre" or "forest". Produced in 1975 by Editions Marquet for Gallery Marquet in Paris, France. This print is in excellent condition, see pictures for details. It comes unframed. Jean-Michel Folon’s (Belgium 1934 - 2005) enigmatic landscapes and mysterious humanoid forms helped revolutionize conceptual approaches to illustration in the late 20th century. While Folon has worked across multiple disciplines—including painting, textile, sculpture, stained glass, and printmaking—he is perhaps best known for his drawings and watercolors depicting landscapes in the vein of Surrealist masters such as Salvador Dalí and René Magritte. These works depicted idyllic forests and prison-like skyscrapers populated by butterfly or bird/human hybrids he called “Everymen.” Folon’s drawings were published in such publications as Esquire, The New Yorker, and Time, among others, and he illustrated a number of well-known books. Folon widely exhibited during his lifetime, including at institutions such as Les Arts Décoratifs, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and the Musée Picasso.

Garo Zareh Antreasian “Painters Tray” Geometric Abstraction c1977
By Garo Z Antresian
Located in Oakland, CA
This is such an incredible lithograph by master printmaker, Garo Zareh Antreasian c1977. We aren’t sure if the artwork is better than the beautiful shadow box frame or vise versa. Our expert framer floated this piece perfectly in a custom made shadow box frame. The wood used which is mainly black, but has thin streaks of silvery grey (almost metallic feel) that picks up in the grey gradient lines throughout the artwork. *Note this is not an edition, which makes this more valuable, and collectable. In our opinion, after looking at his body of work, we think this is probably the best piece he did. The execution on this is just incredible. Signed in pencil, embossed with the artist’s cipher, and dated. The print itself is in perfect condition with no flaws, anything you see in the photos is a reflection from the lights when we photographed it. This was just framed so it’s flawless. Garo Zareh Antreasian (1922-2018) was born in Indianapolis, printmaker Garo Zareh Antreasian helped to promote the art of lithography among American artists during the 1960s and 1970s. He studied printmaking with Will Barnet in New York. During the 1950s, while teaching at the John Herron Institute in Indianapolis, he began to produce color lithographs. Throughout his career, Antreasian has been a very active member of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop. The workshop was established in 1960 to train lithographers...

CREATOR Sergio Gonzales-Tornero, Chilean (1927-2020) DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1970. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Etching with Aquatint on wove paper. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS Sheet: H 25.25 in. x W 28.25 in., Image: H 19.75 in. W 23.75 in. HISTORY Sergio Carlo Higinio Gonzalez-Tornero, painter and printmaker, was born in Santiago, Chile on May 22, 1927. The son of diplomats, he studied in Chile, Brazil, and the United States. In 1958 he studied at the Slade School in London before moving to Paris, where he worked at Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 and met his wife, fellow printmaker Adrienne Cullom. They settled permanently in New York in 1962, where Sergio and Adrienne worked together at Bob Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop. After visiting the Canadian archipelago of Haida Gwaii, Sergio became fascinated with the arts of the indigenous Haida peoples, finding it to be deeply spiritual: this became and remained a powerful influence in his work. Principally a printmaker, Gonzalez-Tornero had more than forty solo exhibitions in Chile, Canada, Europe, and the United States. He discussed his printmaking techniques in an essay on page 325 of Fritz Eichenberg’s The Art of the Print. Gonzalez-Tornero was awarded a fellowship by the New York State Foundation for the Arts in 1987 and a grant from the Adolph and Ester Gottlieb Foundation in 1990. He was a member of and exhibited with the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Boston Printmakers, and the Philadelphia Print Club. His work garnered numerous prestigious awards including the UNESCO Prize at the International Biennial of Prints in Cracow, Poland; first prize at the XII Biennale of Latin American Prints...
