Acquired from 2011 Solo exhibition at a gallery in Vancouver Canada titled "The Road to Abstraction " by mixed-media artist Judith Myers. This exhibition of works is the inspired result of a recent trip to Holland where she participated in a workshop on a canal boat studying in depth the history of the Dutch Masters and practicing traditional techniques using contemporary materials.
Judith Myers was born in Toronto, Canada and trained in Modern dance before embarking on a career in visual art. Her passion for the abstract expressionists gave inspiration to move to Europe in 1980 where the artistic ambiance was prevalent and conducive for a Canadian to study and integrate with the artists of the European community. Arriving in Amsterdam with a background in teaching modern dance was the introduction that paved the way to being welcomed into learning ceramics, drawing, painting and mixed media. It took only a short time before her work was on display in exhibitions in Holland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. She is presently living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia

Biography:
Michael Kenna is a photographer who was born in Widnes, England, and is best known for his photographs of black-and-white landscapes. In his early years of education, he attended the Banbury School of Art, where he took up studies in painting and photography. He later became a student at the London College of Printing, where he began working as an artist and a photographer. Kenna is one of five children born to Irish-Catholic parents. Before discovering his passion for art, he aspired to enter the priesthood because of his Irish-Catholic background. Kenna moved to San Francisco in 1977.
The photographer took his first trip to Japan in 1987, and he was deeply impressed by the terrain of the country. Over the years, Kenna has visited and photographed almost every part of Japan. These visits spawned the book Japan, which featured more than 95 photographs of the country. This book is one of 18 published works by Kenna. Inspired by her many travels, her work explores landscapes as a contemplative territory. The desire to revisit past voyages through painting and to recapture the sentiments she experienced in various places was her primary motivation for producing these landscapes. "For the last fifteen years I have explored the reconstruction of landscapes in my painting. My practice is concerned with our relation to land as the memory of place. A land can be occupied, shared, transformed and dreamed, idealized. The land, as homeland or an idyllic land to travel to, where the memory is presupposed. Through my art, I explore that memory of travel, the journeys I made and the ones I dreamed. When contemplating a landscape and experiencing the change of light or atmosphere we realize the passage of time. As explorers from bygone eras, seeking unknown lands, my work proposes a return to the essential…that the French call ‘le bapteme de la solitude’. It is a unique sensation, and it has nothing to do with loneliness, for loneliness presupposes memory. Here, in this wholly mineral landscape lighted by stars like flares, even memory disappears; nothing is left but your own breathing and the sound of your heat beating. A strange, and by no means pleasant, process of reintegration begins inside you, and you have the choice of fighting against it, and insisting on remaining the person you have always been, or letting it take its course.
