Jim Rose - Coffee Table, Steel Furniture, Hot Rolled and Repurposed Steel
By Jim Rose
Located in Chicago, IL
This coffee table is made with hot rolled steel and repurposed steel tube legs. The legs were previously painted however the artist sandblasts them and maintains a majority of the paint to add to the industrial aesthetic of the piece. This highly versatile table will add interest and functionality to any room. Jim Rose Coffee Table hot roll and found painted steel 18h x 34w x 60d in 45.72h x 86.36w x 152.40d cm JR0257 Jim Rose b. 1966, d. 2023 Bio: Born in Indiana, Jim Rose lived in Europe until he returned to the United States to attend college. After one year at Bard College, Jim transferred to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) where he graduated in 1988 with a BFA. His skillful interpretation of the Shaker design is a result of intense research and field study of Shaker furniture, architecture, culture and history. After over two decades of dedicated work, he has mastered the minimalism of the Shaker technique and created his own unique visual vernacular. The quilts of Gee's Bend have become a monumental influence taking this artist's work to new levels of unique interpretation and artistry. His selection of aged steel results in a patina directly related to that of aged wood while his colored strips beautifully mimic worn cloth. Each piece of furniture is masterfully made and intended for daily use. Jim Rose’s steel furniture is featured every year at SOFA Chicago for the past 25 years. Antique Industrial Shop Table Begging to Become a Kitchen Island Original Paint
Located in Chicago, IL
Whoever built this Industrial Work Table, almost begging to become a Kitchen Island, must have known that today’s Kitchen Islands would be 36” high, for that is almost exactly (36.88") what this 100-year-old Industrial Table measures. On top of getting the height spot-on, they had to have known how popular the Gustavian Grey or French Putty Grey would become 100-years later. This is an unrestored Industrial Work Table and because it measures exactly 36.88" high, we're going to guess it is from America. The hand-cut dove tails used to construct the drawers gives it an early 1900’s or possibly a late 1800’s build date. Our inhouse Old Plank workshop thoroughly cleaned the industrial Kitchen Island...

Antique Irish Pine Kitchen Table with a Great Scrubbed Pine Top c1880-1890
Located in Chicago, IL
Antique Irish Pine Kitchen Table dating from around 1880-1890. The most interesting aspect of our Antique Irish Pine Small Table is the Patina of the Scrubbed Pine Top. Try as we might, there is simply no way to duplicate a real 100-year-old patina. In order to preserve the patina of the pine, we chose to coat it with paraffin wax and not simply apply a coat of beeswax. The real difference between the two waxes is the length of time in which they last. Beeswax is maybe good for a few months of use, while a good coating of paraffin will last for years. Yes, it does take several hours to apply, but not only does it look terrific, but is feels good to the touch. We all facilitated between stripping off the old white paint or leaving it was is and you can see we left the old white crumbly and cracked paint as is. This is the description from the Antique expert in Ireland: "19th C. painted pine kitchen server...
