Eden Revisited, A Garden in Northern Morocco
By Rizzoli International Publications
Located in New York, NY
Author Umberto Pasti and Ngoc Minh Ngo, Foreword by Martina Mondadori Sartogo A lovingly photographed tour of internationally renowned writer Umberto Pasti's famous hillside garden in Morocco. Italian writer and horticulturist Umberto Pasti's passion for the wild flora of Tangier and its surrounding region led him to create his world-famous garden, Rohuna, where he has transplanted thousands of plants rescued from construction sites with the aid of men from the village. Planted between two small houses is the Garden of Consolation: a series of rooms and terraces with lush vegetation, some rendering homage to the paintings of Henri Rousseau, others inspired by invented characters. Surrounding the Garden of Consolation are the Wild Garden and a hillside devoted to the wild flowering bulbs of northern Morocco, where indigenous species of narcissus, iris, crocus, scilla, gladiolus, and others bloom. With its stunning vistas and verdant fields, Rohuna is a garden of incomparable beauty with the mission to preserve the botanical richness of the region. Captured here in detail by celebrated photographer Ngoc Minh Ngo, the poetic beauty of this special and unique place is lovingly rendered for all the world to see and share. About The Author Ngoc Minh Ngo is a celebrated photographer and the author of two books. Ngoc's images have been published in publications such as T Magazine, Architectural Digest, Cabana, and House & Garden UK. Umberto Pasti is a well-known Italian writer and horticulturalist. Martina Mondadori Sartogo is the founder of Cabana magazine...

Fred Herzog, Vancouver Photographs by Fred Herzog, Signed Edition
Located in valatie, NY
Fred Herzog: Vancouver Photographs by Fred Herzog. Signed Edition exhibition catalog (Vancouver Art Gallery January 25-May 13, 2007). 160 pages with numerous color photographs throughout. "Iconic and influential color images of Vancouver street life from a master photographer who has spent the past fifty years documenting the city, published to coincide with a major exhibition of his work. His eye dwells on the raw urban underbelly of the city: second-hand shops, vacant lots, barber shops and greasy spoons, crowded with people and their stuttering dreams. Since he arrived in Vancouver from Germany in 1953, Fred Herzog has roamed the city's back streets with his camera. Herzog draws upon documentary traditions while incorporating an outsider's sensitivity to a new environment. His color images of street life in the 1950s and '60s prefigure the "New Color" of photographers such as Stephen Shore and William Eggleston. The text includes essays by Grant Arnold...

Living with Chamberlain, Art in Residence
By Assouline Publishing
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Living with Chamberlain: Art in Residence offers an intimate portrait of the artist’s legacy, featuring a foreword by Rick Owens and a series of conversations with family, friends, gallerists, and collectors. This personal volume reveals how Chamberlain’s art has touched the lives of many—mirroring the eclecticism of his own creative spirit. John Chamberlain (1927–2011) is celebrated for his prolific output and groundbreaking sculptures that defied convention. The stories shared throughout the book offer unexpected glimpses into the way his work continues to resonate: collectors Bruce and Barbara Berger recall trading a refrigerator for a Chamberlain sculpture in 1972; Yvonne Force Villareal recounts meeting her husband, artist Leo Villareal, at an exhibition of Chamberlain couches; fashion designer Matthew Williams and artist Solange Knowles reflect on Chamberlain’s creative influence; and Vera Wang shares the story of an unusual friendship sparked by a chance encounter at MoMA. Contributors include: Amy Astley; Joa Baldinger and Heiner Friedrich; Bruce and Barbara Berger; Darius and Jill Bikoff; Michael Black; David, Lauren, and Sean Carpenter; Susan Davidson; Karen, Steven, and Zoë Feldman; Urs Fischer; Larry Gagosian; Bob Gersh; Andrea Glimcher; Marc Glimcher; Eric Goodman; Jeff and Judy Greenstein; Karsten Greve; Wilhelm and Jutta Grusdat; Lana Jokel; Rainer Judd; Colin King; Solange Knowles; Bernard and Joanne Kruger; Nancy Magoon; Helen Marden...

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Daring by Design by Anne Hawley
Located in valatie, NY
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Daring by Design by Anne Hawley and Robert Campbell. Published by Skira Rizzoli, 2017, hardcover. An in-depth study of one of Boston's treasured cultural landmarks, the pioneering patron behind the collection, and the Pritzker Prize-winning architect who modernized the Gardner Museum's vision. When Isabella Stewart Gardner opened her exquisitely curated collection to the public in 1903, she could hardly have imagined the more than 250,000 visitors that now annually explore the art and furnishings housed in her historic re-creation of a Venetian palace. Tasked with the first addition to the museum since its founding, Renzo Piano Building Workshop has brought Gardner's vision into the new millennium. In addition to sumptuous images of the courtyards, gardens, and galleries of the original stone palazzo and rarely seen journal pages and photographs, this beautifully designed volume features architectural renderings and new photographs of the 70,000-square-foot wing. Essays address Gardner's life, including her friendships with Henry James, James McNeill Whistler, and John Singer Sargent; the museum's interaction with Renzo Piano Building Workshop; and the new building within the firm's distinguished museum work as a whole. The 1990 theft of 13 works of art from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s collection remains unsolved, although the Museum’s commitment to resolving the crime has never diminished since its occurrence 33 years ago. The Museum, the FBI, and the US Attorney's office are still seeking viable leads that could result in safe return of the art. The Museum is offering a $10 million dollar...

Nora Murphy’s Country House Style Book by Nora Murphy
Located in New York, NY
Nora Murphy’s Country House Style Making Your Home a Country House By: Nora Murphy with Deborah Golden Photography by DuAnne Simon “Nora Murphy is in a country state of mind. The founder of Connecticut Country House, a venture that encompasses an online magazine and blog about all things country, her dedication goes way beyond milk paints and Americana crafts. Instead, the former Executive Vice President of Style at Ethan Allen has built a business and a lifestyle around embracing the concept of the country house.” —Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Nora Murphy has turned her passion for country house style and its embodiment—her own home in Newtown, Connecticut—into a multimedia juggernaut. Her blog, website, e-magazine, strong presence on social media, and increasing visibility in print media and on TV have earned her a devoted following all over the country and around the world. And now she has distilled the essence of her knowledge about the fundamentals of country house style and how to achieve it in this irresistible volume. In the introduction, Murphy lays out the universal elements of country house style: creating a place where everyone is always welcome; where comfort is always in style; where there’s always room for our favorite things; where there’s always a reason to celebrate; where we honor tradition by changing it up; where home extends well beyond our walls. The body of the book shows how the elements of this comfortable, comforting, easy aesthetic and approach to life can be applied in different ways and in different locations to striking, individual effect. Murphy features six homes, beginning with her own, each of which expresses a unique take on the style, from elegant country to English cottage country to vintage farmhouse country to historical country. Part primer, part wish book, Nora Murphy’s Country House Style, illustrated entirely with specially commissioned photography, is all inspiration. Nora Murphy studied interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and founded her own interior design and architectural and product illustration...

Outside In Book by M. Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp with Judith Nasatir
Located in New York, NY
Outside In The Gardens and Houses of Tichenor & Thorp By: M. Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp with Judith Nasatir Foreword by Pilar Viladas Photographs by Roger Davies Deeply fluent in the Mediterranean and American vernaculars and the modern forms of the California Tradition, Tichenor & Thorp design exceptional properties that integrate large-scale residences and luxurious gardens and landscapes into a singular, unified vision: house and landscape imagined as one complete expression for a given site and particular client. The duo traverses the spectrum of periods and styles to craft beautifully realized, finely choreographed, highly appropriate living environments that resonate with individuality and precedent. Featured projects include a Spanish-inflected courtyard house and garden in Las Palmas that spectacularly frames the palm trees and the mountains; a Bel Air estate and grounds tinged with English and French influences; a Newport Beach hilltop hideaway that evokes a Portuguese quinta; a Provençal bastide and surrounding gardens transplanted to the côte sud that is Rancho Santa Fe; a Pasadena retreat inflected with John Soane–inspired details; a renovated Harwell Hamilton Harris house in Holmby Hills with a cruciform plan and corresponding gardens of individual character; two luxe contemporary Manhattan apartments; and a modern mountain getaway at the foot of the Tetons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Illustrated with specially commissioned photographs by Roger Davies and Brian Tichenor’s own masterly watercolors, drawings, and plans, and with a foreword by Pilar Viladas, architecture and design editor at Town & Country, Outside In shares “Hollywood’s best-kept secret” with the world. Raun Thorp, a native Californian, worked with Peter and Allison Smithson in London and several noted Los Angeles–area firms, including Frank Gehry and Moore Ruble Yudell before co-founding Tichenor & Thorp. In addition to her multifaceted design work on the firm’s architecture projects and her spearheading of its interiors division, Thorp oversees the firm’s business development and operations. A Fellow of the Garden Conservancy, Thorp is also a member of the Society of Architectural Historians and the Los Angeles Conservancy, as well as Las Doñas at UCLA. She served for many years on the South Carthay Historic Preservation Board, and is currently on the board of Big Sunday, a national non-profit. Her extensive educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College and a master’s degree in architecture from UCLA. Before co-founding Tichenor & Thorp, M. Brian Tichenor, also a California native, worked as a project designer and manager for Moore Ruble Yudell and subsequently, in collaboration with landscape designer Nancy Goslee Power, completed more than a hundred gardens. Currently on the faculty of USC’s Graduate School of Architecture, he is actively involved with the Los Angeles Conservancy, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, the Huntington Library and Gardens, the Living Desert Museum, the Society of Architectural Historians, and the Cultural Landscape Foundation. Also a fine artist, he has shown his abstract canvases at Sears Peyton Gallery. His architectural renderings have been widely published and exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York and Max Protech Gallery, among other venues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in architecture from UCLA.
