Barcelona Olympic Boxing Mascot Cobi (1992) by Javier Mariscal
By Javier Mariscal
Located in London, GB
The 1992 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXV Olympiad, were held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, from 25 July to 9 August 1992. Commonly referred to as Barcelona '92, these games were notable for being the last Summer and Winter Olympics to be held in the same year, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided thereafter to alternate the events in separate even-numbered years, starting in 1994. This was a pivotal moment in Olympic history, as the Barcelona Games marked the first Summer Olympics held in the post-Cold War era and were free from the boycotts that had plagued previous events, a situation not seen since the 1972 Munich Olympics. Barcelona '92 is widely regarded as one of the most successful Olympic Games, contributing significantly to the modernization and global image of the city. It was also a Games of many firsts: the debut of the "Dream Team" in basketball, which featured NBA players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, and the reintegration of South Africa into the international sports community after a 32-year ban due to apartheid. The participation of a unified German team following the reunification of East and West Germany, and the absence of the Soviet Union (though its former republics competed as the Unified Team), further emphasized the geopolitical shifts of the time. The official mascot for the 1992 Barcelona Games was *Cobi*, a stylized sheepdog designed by Catalan artist and designer Javier Mariscal. Mariscal, already a significant figure in contemporary design, was known for his eclectic and playful style, often blending comic art with a modernist sensibility. His creation of Cobi was a departure from previous Olympic mascots...

Georgian Mahogany Miniature Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Good Quality And Charming Early 19th Century Mahogany Miniature Chest, Having Well Figured Top Over Three Long Drawers With Original Brass Knobs And Boxwood Inlaid Escutcheons, Over Elegant Shaped Apron With Original Splayed Bracket Feet.  There is regular debate over whether miniature furniture was made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who was looking for a job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents. Or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans sample piece, which is when a few items were produced as scale models but a well established workshop as a form of physical catalogue in advance of a travelling salesman’s road trip around the country, for him to use to try and fill his order book with full size counterparts. We believe that this particular little Georgian Miniature Chest was probably made as an apprentice piece, due to the relative simplicity of it, combined with the exceptional execution, which maybe suggests that somebody was very much trying to impress somebody else. It is also slightly unusual in form, which again suggests it was made more as a one off item with a specific purpose, as opposed to a scale model of other items. It is certainly a charming piece of antique miniature furniture...

Vintage model of a Riva Aquarama Speedboat 3ft with Cream Interior 20th Century
Located in London, GB
This is an exceptional handbuilt model of the “Riva Aquarama”, a luxury wooden launch built by the Italian yacht builder Riva, dating from the late 20th century. In production from 1962 to 1996, the Aquarama was the most famous of Carlo Riva’s luxury designs and has the reputation of being the Ferrari of the boat world. It takes its name from its wraparound windscreen, which is reminiscent of the Cinerama film format that was popular in the 1960s. This impressive speedboat is built to scale 1;10 and mirrors the original model.. It has been beautifully polished to a fine gloss with chrome parts and real leather upholstery in a beautiful cream colour. The model comes with its original stand. It is of the highest quality and is ready to grace a special place in your home. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 24 cm x Width 94 cm x Depth 30 cm Dimensions in inches: Height 9 inches x Width 3 feet, 1 inch x Depth 1 foot The Riva Aquarama is a luxury wooden runabout built by Italian yachtbuilder Riva. Production of it and its derivatives (the Lungo, Super, and Special) ran from 1962 until 1996. The hull was based on the Riva Tritone, an earlier model speedboat by Riva, which in turn was inspired by the American Chris-Craft runabouts. The boat's speed, beauty, and craftsmanship earned it praise as the Ferrari of the boat world. The company was founded by Pietro Riva in 1842, and run by Carlo Riva through its 1969 sale to the American Whittaker Corporation. The most famous of Carlo Riva’s designs...

Bed Tester Mahogany Chippendale Claret Red Damask Duke Hamilton Scotland Banner
Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
The Faringdon House, Chippendale Period, Mahogany, Claret Red Damask, Tester Bed Incorporating The Arms Of The Dukes Of Hamilton, The Royal Banner Of Scotland & Tree Of Life, sold with new custom-made, luxury, pocket sprung, king-sized mattress 5ft, 150cm wide - With the Royal Banner of The Royal Arms of Scotland In The Tester, the Coat of Arms of the Dukes of Hamilton in the Head Curtain & Tree Of Life In the Bedspread: all Gold, Silver & Polychrome Embroidered. - ‘ I can remember, during the tedious or frightening but always sleepless nights of fire-watchings in wartime London, that the place I longed to be in most intensely was the Red bedroom at Faringdon, with its crackling fire, its Bessarabian carpet with bunchy flowers, and above all its four-post bed, whence from beneath a huge fat fluffy old-fashioned quilt one can gaze out at the view, head still on the pillow... ‘ Nancy Mitford, Essay on Faringdon House, the home of the the real ‘Lord Merlin’, 1950. Mitford affectionately portrayed her great friend Lord Berners as 'Lord Merlin' in Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate. - Created in 1643, the Dukedom of Hamilton is the premier peerdom in Scotland and the third oldest in the United Kingdom. The head-curtain incorporates the coat of arms of the Dukes of Hamilton prior to 1711 when they were combined with the Dukedom of Brandon. The oak tree and inscription ‘Through’ alludes to the tree that Charles II hid in at Boscobel in 1651. The inscription ‘Sola Nobilitas Virtus‘ translates as ‘For Virtue is the only Nobility’. - The tester incorporates the Royal Banner of Scotland. The earliest recorded use of the lion rampant as a royal emblem in Scotland was in 1222. Since 1603, the lion rampant of Scotland has been incorporated into both the royal arms and royal banners of Scottish and British monarchs. - Beds symbolise life and the Tree of Life is a significant, cross-cultural symbol; symbolising health, growth, strength, flowering, abundance and longevity. - PROVENANCE : ‘The Red Bedroom’ was the main guest bedroom at Faringdon House, the home of Lord Berners, composer, writer, painter, from 1918 until his death in 1950. Faringdon House was the centre of a glittering social circle during the 1920’s and 30’s and guests included Evelyn Waugh, Siegfried Sassoon, John Betjaman, The Mitford Sisters, Salvador Dali, HG Wells and Gertrude Stein. Many famous guests slept in the "Red Bed", including Salvador and Gala Dali and Nancy Mitford. It is not known where Lord Berners acquired this tester bed and research is underway to see if documentary evidence can be found relating to the history of this tester bed before acquisition by Lord Berners - Hamilton Palace, home to the Dukes of Hamilton for nearly 300 years was furnished with treasures to rival the Royal Collection. Exquisite furniture, famed paintings, coveted objets d’art, finds from antiquity: it was the hoard of a family Daniel Defoe once called ‘great possessors.’ There were two enormous auctions at Hamilton Palace in 1882 and 1919 and the stately home was condemned for demolition in 1921. Many of the treasures from Hamilton Palace are now on display in international museums and collections. National Museums Scotland, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the National Trust, the Louvre, Lennoxlove House and Boston Museum of Fine Arts. - Chippendale period, mahogany, tester bedstead with finely carved, fluted and reeded baluster columnar front posts surmounted by a moulded cornice. Re-upholstered in a two-tone claret red damask, with red and gold passementerie replacing the previous threadbare silk damask. The banner, armorial and tree of life embroidery...

20th Century Louis Vuitton Trunk, France c.1930
By Louis Vuitton
Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
An exquisite and complete Louis Vuitton trunk from the early part of the 20th century. An absolutely essential item for elite travellers of its time the trunk is adorned in the iconic LV monogrammed canvas, accented by lozine trim and brass fittings. This trunk stood as the epitome of luxury over 100 years ago, boasting an unparalleled level of sophistication and elegance, it remains a timeless masterpiece that transcends eras. The captivating allure of the Louis Vuitton trunk transforms it into more than a mere luggage accessory; it becomes a focal point for any room. With its impressive dimensions, it is perfectly suited as a striking coffee table, side table, or even as a standalone centrepiece, seamlessly integrating into any interior, whether modern or traditional. An extraordinary piece that not only pays homage to the past but also serves as a statement of unparalleled luxury in the present. A brief history about Louis Vuitton trunks: Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 to a farmer and milliner and came from a long-established working-class family in eastern France. Vuitton grew up understanding the effects of perseverance and a strong work ethic from watching his family. At the age of 16, he made the decision to walk 292 miles from his hometown to Paris to try and make a new life for himself. When he arrived the city was in the midst of industrialization with current modes of transportation evolving quickly allowing for longer journeys. With this came the need for sturdy travel pieces. Vuitton was taken as an apprentice for a successful box maker and packer named Monsieur Marechal. He learned to craft durable containers and how to pack them properly – a well-respected profession at the time.In 1854, years after he had mastered his craft and became well respected for it, Vuitton ventured out on his own to open a shop on Rue Neuve des Capucines. It was here that he began to establish himself as a luggage maker. Then, in 1858, Vuitton designed the first Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. At the time trunks had rounded tops to allow for water to run off but this did not allow for convenient stowage. Vuitton introduced a flat, yet waterproof, trunk that was easily stackable. The first of his trunks were outfitted with a grey canvas referred to as Trianon – it wouldn’t be until several decades later that the signature monogram would be introduced. With a burgeoning business, Vuitton moved his family and workplace to Asniere, where he employed twenty workers to craft his trunks. By 1900 he would have 100 employees, and in 1914 the company would more than double in size. After years of success, Vuitton began to experiment with the design of his luggage by introducing a new striped canvas pattern (1876) and later the still well-known Damier print (1888). The hand-painted patterns were developed to prevent counterfeits. Even in the late 1800s, Louis Vuitton was enough of a status symbol to warrant counterfeiting. In 1886, his son George invented and patented an ingenious locking system that made it impossible to pick the lock of their trunks. This lock is still used today. 1892 would prove to be a time of mourning for the family as Louis Vuitton passed...
