Set of 16 Luxury Nature Collection Christmas Tree Ornaments Vintage Irish Linen
By Katie Larmour Design
Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Nature Collection Set of 16 Artisan Irish Linen Ornaments by Katie Larmour This is a luxury box set of artisan made decorative ornaments created with authentic Irish Linen, exclusive to 1stdibs. They are special because they are limited editions from a beautiful mixture of vintage and deadstock fabric in small batches (some even one-of-a-kind) embellished with exquisite copper embroidery and dainty beading. These novelty ornaments are a unique and quirky gift, or a treat to oneself. They are particularly suitable for the holiday season and the ultimate Christmas tree decorations. They are collectible and can be kept as heirlooms. Katie Larmour is an acclaimed Northern Irish designer with a studio based in her hometown of Belfast. Known for heritage textiles, her signature use of Irish Linen and original designs have seen her brand make waves in Europe and beyond. The fabric is 100% pure Irish Linen from a mixture of sustainable sources - vintage, local mill deadstock rolls from one of the last remaining linen mills still active in Ireland today, repurposed antique tablecloths, and off cuts from our own cushion making. As an associate member of the Irish Linen Guild, Katie Larmour Design is listed on their official website as a ‘certified “trusted and recommended” purveyor of Irish Linen goods’. Katie was invited to be an ambassador for The European Confederation of Flax and Hemp (CELC) in 2021. Each set contains one of each of the below: Butterfly Fox Robin Palm tree Umbrella Wellington (rubber) boot Swan Hedgehog Toadstool Beehive Flax flower Oak leaf Pumpkin Pineapple Spider web Rabbit We produce items for all occasions such as Halloween, Fall, Autumn, birthdays, engagement, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas tree decorations, Easter, nautical / coastal themes. There are 16 items included in this set. Measurements: Butterfly (11 x 9 cm) Fox (5.5 x 9 cm) Robin (7 x 7 cm) Palm tree (7.5 x 9.5 cm) Umbrella (7.5 x 8 cm) Wellington (rubber) boot (6 x 9.5 cm) Swan (9 x 8 cm) Hedgehog (8 x 5 cm) Toadstool (7.5 x 9 cm) Beehive (7 x 7 cm) Flax flower (9 x 9 cm) Oak leaf (11 x 6.5 cm) Pumpkin (7.5 x 7.5 cm) Pineapple (6 x 10 cm) Spider web (7 x 7 cm) Rabbit (6 x 9 cm) Expanded notes on images: No.4 onwards: These are product shots of a selection of decorations that may not reflect exactly the items in this set’s listing, the items in image No.1 are what to expect in your order. Use: Our ornament can be used simply as a trinket, hung on a Christmas tree, from twigs in an Easter vase, as tablescaping display centrepieces, wedding favours, and look wonderful attached to the key of an antique drawer or bathroom cabinet and even from the furniture of a window. Care: Decoration only. Does not function as a bag. Not a toy. Do not eat. Do not place near a naked flame. Condition: Each individual item is handmade using traditional artisan tools and skills, this is reflected in the pieces. Although constructed with care and precision, no two pieces are exactly the same, they are rustic in style and look and that is part of their charm and character. Both the fabric or beading may show signs of wear, as a portion of our materials are recycled. Any pre-loved or vintage linen used may have slight marks or patchiness to it, this is to be expected. Some of the deadstock cloth comes in unused rolls and is spotless. The items in the listing are from a mix of fabric sources. A portion of the pearl beads are reclaimed and may show signs of wear and tear including scratches. Our other items: We also have limited edition coloured - teacups, gingerbread men, handbags, lips, oak leaves, pumpkins, seahorses and shells here on 1stdibs. Our brand is known as the original vintage scarf cushion...

A Gold And Enamel Mourning Ring For Lord Nelson By John Salter, England, 1806
Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
An extremely rare ring that commemorates the naval hero, Horatio Nelson, who died in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar, fighting against the Napoleonic forces. Dr William Nelson, the admiral's brother, ordered 58 mourning rings for family and friends and every admiral and post-captain who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar . The ring is inscribed on the bezel ‘Trafalgar’; outside the hoop with Nelson’s motto in Latin, ‘Let him who earned it bear the palm [of victory]’, adopted by Nelson from a poem ‘Ad Ventos’ written in 1727 by John Jortin (1698-1770). Inside is the inscription ‘Lost to his country 21 October 1805, aged 47’. The initials N and B stand for Nelson and Bronte. Admiral Nelson was given the title of Duke of Bronte in 1799 by the King of Sicily and in 1801 became a Viscount. The two coronets above the initials refer to these titles. Tthe motto Palmam qui meruit ferat ("let him who has earned it, bear the palm") was added to his coat of arms in 1798 after the Battle of the Nile. Nelson was buried with full honours in St Paul's Cathedral. His cortege consisted of 32 admirals, over a hundred captains, and an escort of 10,000 soldiers. This ring is an example of only fifty-eight that were made by Nelson's jeweller John Salter in 1806. Thirty-one were for Nelson's close family and friends, the rest for pall-bearers and other dignitaries (see The Nelson Dispatch, vol.3 pt.XII, oct.1990). Three similar examples of this ring are held extremely prestigious museums in the capital. One is in the Greenwich National Maritime Museum in London, another in The British Museum in London and another in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, exhibited in the Jewellery Gallery, case 23, no. 8. The ring has a particularly special provenance, arguably like no other mourning ring of Admiral Nelson’s. The ring belonged to the Reverend Alexander John Scott. The Reverend Alexander John Scott (1768-1840) was a British naval chaplain. He was appointed to the flagship H.M.S. Victory in 1803 where he served as private secretary to Lord Nelson. He was with Nelson when when he was shot on the quarter-deck of the Victory at the battle of Trafalgar on the 21st October 1805. Scott attended his dying chief in the cockpit of the flagship, receiving his last wishes. He refused to leave Nelson's body until it was brought back to England and placed in the coffin to lie in the Painted Hall Greenwich. The ring, lock of hair and music book were passed down by the direct descendants of the Reverend Alexander John Scott's family and eventually gifted to the previous owners. The music book was a personal possession of the Reverend which gives watertight provenance of the person who owned the ring. It is not clear exactly what Admiral Nelson’s last words really were although Scott documents Nelson’s last words to be “God and my country“. However, it is also recorded that a statement during his last hours was "Thank God I have done my duty.” Perhaps these two statements uttered in the last moments sound similar when mumbled by a feeble dying man. Nonetheless, it is noteworthy is that Scott remained by Admiral Nelson’s side as he died and his version is probably the most reliable. The lock of hair is reputedly that of Lord Admiral Nelson. Without a DNA test there can be no conclusive proof of such. However, given that Reverend Alexander John Scott was with Nelson from the moment he was shot on the quarter-deck of H.M.S. Victory until the moment he was placed in his coffin, there is no reason to believe it is not a lock of Nelson’s hair. It is difficult to overstate the significance and rarity of Nelson’s mourning rings. With only fifty-eight made, the vast majority of them were given to close family members and only a few were given to close friends. A close friend who receives a morning ring...

Billy Baldwin: The Great American Decorator by Adam Lewis (Book)
Located in North Yorkshire, GB
The definitive book on the legendary decorator Billy Baldwin, known as the "Dean of American Decorating," famous for his classical taste, streamlined modernism, and brilliant use of colour. In the tradition of Rizzoli’s Albert Hadley and David Hicks, this is the first fully illustrated account of the career of Billy Baldwin (1903–1983), one of the most important decorators of the twentieth century, whose work has influenced contemporary designers from Bunny Williams to Jeffrey Bilhuber. A native of Baltimore, Baldwin’s work caught the eye of eminent New York decorator Ruby Ross Wood. She invited him to join her firm, saying his work stood out "like a beacon of light in the boredom of the houses around it." Baldwin’s style was a revelation—simultaneously classical and modernist, tailored and clean, yet dramatically coloured, and above all American. An enemy of clutter and conspicuous wealth, he favoured natural materials and comfortable furniture. The drama in his rooms often came from colour, as seen in the dark brown lacquered walls of Cole Porter’s library or the scarlet cotton print that covered Diana Vreeland’s apartment. Immensely charming, Baldwin was a popular addition to the high society of New York. His clients included Bill and Deeda Blair, Babe and Bill Paley...

The light blue body of the peacock, and its long swirling light and dark blue tail feathers, have been crafted from intricate guilloché enamel, which is often found on Fabergé style eggs...
