This is an exceptionally rare pin created during the Edwardian period at Tiffany & Co. back in the 1900's. The stick pin has been crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and mounted with an Essex glass reverse intaglio carving, depicting the equestrian thematic of a three-dimensional horse-rider. The piece is secured by a gold stick pin and embellished with a an outer curved frame, which is decorated with blue and white hard enamels. Masterfully made with great craftsmanship and showing beautiful rich aged patina. This stunning pin would look beautiful worn on a blouse or blazer, either alone or paired with other pins! It is presented in the original antique Tiffany box.

Essex Glass
Essex glass is a term primarily used in connection with a specific form of reverse intaglio, a technique where a design is engraved on the back of a crystal cabochon, then painted and sealed. This results in a visually stunning effect where the image appears to float within the crystal. The final result is a cabochon where the painted design appears to be floating within the crystal, creating a unique and visually captivating effect.
The Edwardian Period
This era, like the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and mill grain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Mille graining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look.

Paul Edmund Flato born on September 1, 1900. He was an American jeweler, based in New York City from the 1920's to the early 1940's. Considered the first celebrity jeweler, he was well known for important jewelry, and as an early proponent of whimsical pieces. His long list of movie star clients included Greta Garbo, Mae West, Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Doris Duke, Ginger Rogers, Carmen Miranda, Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn, and Gloria Vanderbilt—many of whom wore his pieces on screen. Soon after moving to New York, he opened his own upstairs jewelry shop at One East 57th Street, at the corner of 5th Avenue in Manhattan. Several years later, Tiffany & Co. opened its flagship store directly across the street. This is a gorgeous modernist brooch, created in New York City by the artist and goldsmith Peter Lindeman, back in the 1970. The beautiful brooch was carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish and embellished with applications of green and blue glass enamels.The brooch is mounted with seventeen gorgeous white colorless diamonds and is fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar with a mechanical twist lock. This brooch may be adjusted to wear as a pendant.

Diamonds: Mounted in four-prongs settings, with 17 well matched round brilliant cut diamonds, with a total weight of about 1.17 carats, white colorless F, VS clarity.

Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark associated to Peter Lindeman, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 gold and signed as follows, "©PL 18KT".
Peter Lindeman
He was born in Berlin. Lindeman grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, apprenticing with a fine European firm. In 1947, at the age of 17, he headed to New York, where he worked for several high-end jewelers. After selling his designs to some of the most renowned businesses in the fine jewelry industry, Peter Lindeman set out to make a name for himself. Between crafting some truly innovative designs and developing new methods for reaching customers, both skill and hard work led to acclaim for his jewelry. His workshop supplied pieces to retailers such as Tiffany & Co., Shreve, Crump & Lowe, and Bailey Banks & Biddle. In 1955, he started designing his own jewelry and created his signature hallmark – a teardrop with an “L” placed on the back of every piece. This mythical animal symbolizes power, good fortune, and strength and is associated with auspicious traits like intelligence, ambition and charisma. The Year of the Dragon holds immense significance in the Chinese zodiac, repeating every 12 years. European legends portray dragons as demonic, malevolent beings guarding treasures to be conquered by heroic kings.
