Le Marocchine - Etching by Luigi Bartolini - 1944
Located in Roma, IT
Image dimensions: 17.4 x 23.5 cm. Le marocchine (Maurina e sua sorella) is an original artwork realized by Luigi Bartolini in 1944. Original etching and China ink on paper. Titled, dated and signed on plate on the lower central: "Maurina 1944 14 giugno L. Bartolini". Titled, dated, numbered and hand-signed in pencil at the bottom: "Le marocchine 1944 Es. 9/30 Luigi Bartolini". Excellent conditions. Other titles of the work: Maurina; Maurina e sua sorella; Le marocchine (Ragazze da marocchini). The work is also present in the book Arthur Rimbaud, Une saison en enfer - De Luigi, Rome, 1943. Luigi Bartolini Cupramontana (Ancona), 1892 – Rome 1963 An accomplished Twentieth Century Italian engraver, painter, writer, art critic and engraver. He spent his early years living in Rome, Siena, and Florence and was professionally formed through university courses in art and medicine, museums, and the Academy Belle Arti. He begins to study art in 1912 with a special preference for Goya, Rembrandt, and Fattori. His success as an engraver arrives in 1924 with his exhibitions at Bragaglia’s House of Art and Casa Palazzi di Roma (70 etchings). In 1925 he participates in the II Roman Biennial and then in the Venice Biennial from 1928 to 1936. He is considered, along with Morandi, the greatest Italian engraver. His expositive work continues with intensity in the post-war period with one-man exhibitions in both Italy and abroad. His last one-man exhibition takes place at the XXXI Venice Biennial and at the National Chalcography in Rome in 1962. Bartolini lives through his era in complete liberty, dedicating himself to painting, to art criticism, to literature and teaching. This intellectual and artistic autonomy is well reflected in his engravings and it is exactly because of this characteristic of intellectual autonomy that he has never really belonged to the Scuola Romana although he was very attached to it because he frequented the Roman environment and it’s artists who he would often exhibit with. His literary production is gathered the volumes Polemiche (1940), Credo d’artista (1945), Il Fallimento della Pittura (1948) and Poesie 1911-1963(1964). As a critic, he collaborates with numerous magazines such as “Il Selvaggio”, “Quadrivio”, “La Tribuna”, “L’Ambrosiano” etc. After the war, “Bicycle Thieves...

Spring 69
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Spring 69" 1969 is an original color lithograph by American artist Nancy Genn, b. 1929. It is hand signed, titled and inscribed Artist Proof in pencil by the artist. The size is 23.75 x 34.65 inches. It is in excellent condition, it has very small marks in the back due to tape removal from previous framing, not visible from the front. About the artist: Nancy Genn is an American artist living and working in Berkeley, California known for works in a variety of media, including paintings, bronze sculpture, printmaking, and handmade paper rooted in the Japanese washi paper making tradition Her work explores geometric abstraction, non-objective form, and calligraphic mark making, and features light, landscape, water, and architecture motifs. She is influenced by her extensive travels, and Asian craft, aesthetics and spiritual traditions. Genn's first noted solo exhibition was in 1955 at Gump's Gallery in San Francisco. She received international recognition through her inclusion in French art critic Michel Tapié’s seminal text Morphologie Autre (1960), which cited her as one of the most important exponents of post-war informal art. Her abstract expressionist paintings of this period, continuing through the mid-1970s, featured all-over compositions of colorful layers of gestural brushwork and calligraphic mark making resembling asemic writing. In 1961, Genn began creating bronze sculptures using the lost-wax casting method. Influenced by noted sculptor and family friend Claire Falkenstein, who used open-formed structures in her work, Genn cast forms woven from long grape vine cuttings, and produced vessels, fountains, fire screens, a menorah, a lectern, and, notably, the Cowell Fountain (1966) at UC Santa Cruz. In 1963 her sculptural work was exhibited with Berkeley artists Peter Voulkos and Harold Paris in the influential exhibition Creative Casting curated by Paul J. Smith at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, New York. Genn was one of the first American artists to express herself through handmade paper, first receiving wide recognition via exhibitions at Susan Caldwell Gallery, New York, beginning in 1977, and in traveling exhibitions with Robert Rauschenberg and Sam Francis. In 1978-1979, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and Japan Creative Arts Fellowship, she studied papermaking in Japan, visiting local paper craftspeople, working in Shikenjo studio in Saitama Prefecture,[5] and exhibiting her work in Tokyo. She also learned techniques from Donald Farnsworth...

Vasi recorded all types of architecture and organized these images of contemporary Rome by subject, with each volume representing a different category of architecture. This comprehensive project provides one of the most complete views of eighteenth-century Rome Condition: Excellent Image/Plate size: 8.25 x 12.63 inches Sheet size: 11 x 15 7/8 inches Vasi was Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s teacher. Piranesi (1720-1778) entered Vasi’s studio as an apprentice at age 20 c. 1740. Piranesi left Vasi’s employment after stabbing Vasi over the perception that Vasi was withholding secrets of the etching process. Giuseppe Vasi was an Italian engraver and painter born and trained in Sicily.
