The Test, Assembled Kinetic Modernist Sculpture Puzzle Construction
Located in Surfside, FL
"The Test," 1970 Aluminum sculpture in 5 parts. Artist's cipher and AP stamped into male figure, front, 20 5/16" x 12 1/2" x 6 5/7" (approx.) American sculptor King is most noted for his long-limbed figurative public art sculptures depicting people engaged in everyday activities such as reading or conversing. He created his busts and figures in a variety of materials, including clay, wood, metal, and textiles. William Dickey King was born in Jacksonville, Florida. As a boy, William made model airplanes and helped his father and older brother build furniture and boats. He came to New York, where he attended the Cooper Union and began selling his early sculptures even before he graduated. He later studied with the sculptor Milton Hebald and traveled to Italy on a Fulbright grant. Mr. King worked in clay, wood, bronze, vinyl, burlap and aluminum. He worked both big and small, from busts and toylike figures to large public art pieces depicting familiar human poses — a seated, cross-legged man reading; a Western couple (he in a cowboy hat, she in a long dress) holding hands; a tall man reaching down to tug along a recalcitrant little boy; a crowd of robotic-looking men walking in lock step. Mr. King’s work often reflected the times, taking on fashions and occasional politics. In the 1960s and 1970s, his work featuring African-American figures (including the activist Angela Davis, with hands cuffed behind her back) evoked his interest in civil rights. But for all its variation, what unified his work was a wry observer’s arched eyebrow, the pointed humor and witty rue of a fatalist. His figurative sculptures, often with long, spidery legs and an outlandishly skewed ratio of torso to appendages, use gestures and posture to suggest attitude and illustrate his own amusement with the unwieldiness of human physical equipment. His subjects included tennis players and gymnasts, dancers and musicians, and he managed to show appreciation of their physical gifts and comic delight at their contortions and costumery. His suit-wearing businessmen often appeared haughty or pompous; his other men could seem timid or perplexed or awkward. Oddly, or perhaps tellingly, he tended to depict women more reverentially, though in his portrayals of couples the fragility and tender comedy inherent in couplehood settled equally on both partners. His first solo exhibit took place in 1954 at the Alan Gallery in New York City. King was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2003, and in 2007 the International Sculpture Center honored him with the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award. Mr. King’s work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Hirshorn Museum at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, among other places, and he had dozens of solo gallery shows in New York and elsewhere. Reviews of his exhibitions frequently began with the caveat that even though the work was funny, it was also serious, displaying superior technical skills, imaginative vision and the bolstering weight of a range of influences, from the ancient Etruscans to American folk art to 20th-century artists including Giacometti, Calder and Elie Nadelman. The New York Times critic Holland Cotter once described Mr. King’s sculpture as “comical-tragical-maniacal,” and “like Giacomettis conceived by John Cheever.”

Tiny Dancer III - figurative bronze sculpture - contemporary artworks for sale
Located in London, Chelsea
Limited Edition of 11, Bronze & Bronze Mesh This abstract sculpture by Will Budgett creates a stunning shadow of a ballerina on the wall when illuminated. It comes complete with a light and base installation and remote control Off\On, as shown in the image, allowing the interplay of light and shadow to bring the artwork to life. The sculpture's clever design results in two shadowy figures, one gracefully mirrored on the right and the other on the left, as if two dancers are performing a duet in perfect harmony. Crafted from bronze and bronze mesh, the materials evoke a sense of strength and delicacy, capturing both the weight and the lightness of the dancers' movements. The dark metallic finish enhances the sculpture’s modern, industrial feel while the intricate mesh work adds a touch of softness, as though the figures could dissolve into air at any moment. The contrast between the solid sculpture and its fluid shadows creates a dynamic, ever-changing piece, where light is as much a part of the artwork as the bronze itself. Signed by the artist and ready to display, Tiny Dancers III offers a captivating addition to any space, bringing elegance, motion, and abstract beauty to the room. The sculpture is currently available for purchase at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea, as well as through their online platform. Artist Biography: Will Budgett's work delves into the dynamic interplay between light and shadow. His abstract sculptures, when illuminated by multiple lights, cast shadows that reveal recognizable forms, creating a striking contrast. The raw, brutal nature of his sculptures is softened by the graceful, fluid shadows they cast, exploring the relationship between what is visible and what remains concealed within an object. In his creations, light serves not only as a tool but as a storyteller, revealing and hiding the stillness and motion within each piece. A self-taught sculptor, Will’s background in design and advertising has shaped his ability to blend physical and allegorical elements in his work. He created his first shadow sculpture...

Soft yellow and creamy white low fired glazed ceramic on wood sculptural wall work of art from Pop Art pioneer Jane B. Her designs spoke to a new generation well into the 1970's, when they were regularly featured in, and graced the covers of, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazines. "Moonlight" unique bronze sculpture
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
Many of Gerard Tsutakawa’s home-sized sculptures, and some of his public ones, have a geometric window that allows the viewer to go through and beyond the form. In “Moonlight,” this small circle becomes the moon and one can go through its phases simply by moving from side to side, the highly polished edges of the circle’s edges mimicking delicate moonlight peering through the night of the dark patina surrounding it. "Moonlight" is finely hand-crafted in fabricated bronze, as opposed to cast, and is therefore one-of-a-kind rather than an edition. Finished with the artist’s rich, dark patina with bluish tinges and a polished inner circle. Gerard Tsutakawa’s designs are a confluence of the cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim. Tsutakawa grew up with a rich heritage of Japanese design creativity and sensibility combined with a lifetime spent in the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful natural environment. Exposure to the esthetics of cultures around the Pacific Rim instilled a humanistic approach to his creative process. He gathers images as bold as a Tongan war club, or as sensitive as folded origami paper, and creates a subliminal integration as a new art form.   Tsutakawa apprenticed with his father, the late George Tsutakawa...

Coloured Glaze Sculpture-Series Four Seasons- Winter#1
Located in Beijing, CN
The sculpture is signed and numbered. Edition 1/1 About Series Four Seasons: I created this Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter based on the abstract deformation of leaf sections. For the collection of Summer, I chose the glass material that enables the piece greenish, looking profound and fluctuating, or smooth and winding. It propels step by step like the leaf outline or fluctuating waves. This collection represents not only my abstract illustration of the growing power of all beings on earth, but also the expression of my thoughts on the subject of eternity, appreciating the tenacious and vigorous power of nature and human beings. When leaves fall back the root, they have themselves decayed through autumn and winter into spring and summer. In general, all beings on earth become a part of this cycle in another form. Nothing is eternal but the iteration that is vigorous and recurrent. - He Wenjue About the artist: He Wenjue was born in 1970 in Hunan Province, China. He received his MA in painting from Jilin Academy of Fine Arts. Member of Chinese Art Association, Member of Chinese Painting Association. The vice-President of Hunan Oil-Painting Association. "Queen Amazon, " Ceramic Vessel
Located in Westport, CT
This crystalline glazed porcelain vessel by Jon Puzzuoli features an earthy green and sand-toned palette and a dark, narrow neck. The crystalline glaze over the surface creates the aesthetic of green "crystals" which form along the the surface of the piece. The artist's stamp can be found at the base of the vessel. Crystalline glazes are special ceramic glazes in which zinc-silicate crystals grow inside the glaze while it is still very hot. The crystals begin as microscopic seeds in the glaze, which form in random numbers and locations. When the kiln is cooled to the proper temperature, crystals start to grow. In order for crystals to grow, the glaze must be very fluid. Much of the glaze runs off the vessel during the firing into a catch basin...

Wishbone 1, Amagansett, NY, 2021
Located in Hudson, NY
ABOUT This wishbone is charred white oak with a tinted aqua resin base. “There’s no color in my work,” says Shlafer, “I either burn it, bleach it, or leave it alone.” Shlafer’s sculptures are designed with rudimentary material such as pine, oak, and spruce salvaged as driftwood on the Eastern end of Long Island. The artist started this body of work during the pandemic after he stumbled upon the charming discoveries while traveling on foot by the coastline. Always a wayfarer at heart, he drew inspiration from his youth of traveling on a motorcycle through Southern Africa and seeing indigenous art made from ordinary earth objects within local villages. “Wishbone 1” a 5 Foot sculpture, charred white oak with a tinted aqua resin base that reflects an omen of resilience and hardiness in light of the hardships of the past pandemic year, In another “Tune” a bleached spruce fence post narrowed into a tuning fork shape with a slate base. It welcomes a ceremonial vibe. “At the end of the day, that’s the energy we all crave,” says Shlafer, “who doesn’t respond to that?” “Mushroom #3” a charred white oak sculpture that is versatile in design so it can act as an end table or a stool. It is masterfully crafted and brings to mind the redwood stools...

Carlos Betancourt Sculpture Spray Paint Painting Miami Latin American Modern Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Carlos Betancourt, American (Born 1966) Abstract Sculpture Spray Paint and hand Painted Sculptural Wall Applique. Hand signed. Dimensions: 23 X 23 inches approximately Three dimensional neo primitive wall relief I believe this is from The Sounds Symbols Project (2000), a monumental ephemeral installation in the sand in Miami Beach. Carlos Betancourt (born San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966) is an American multi-disciplinary artist. His artworks explore issues of memory, and his own experiences, while also dwelling in issues of nature, the environment and matters of beauty, identity and communication. He has worked as a curator, furniture designer and has collaborated in with Louis Vuitton as well as on architectural and site-specific private and public commissions with architect Alberto Latorre. Betancourt artwork is in part inspired by his relationship with nature as well as by the diverse cultures and history of the Caribbean basin, Florida and the Americas. Also by artist Ana Mendieta interventions, Robert Rauschenberg assemblages, Andy Warhol perceptions, Neo Rauch compositions, and a Federico Fellini-esque cast of characters for his photo assemblages. Additionally, he relates to some of theorist Jean Baudrillard views about art and his philosophy on objects; French artist Gustave Courbet's idea that "the only possible source for living art is the artist's own experiences", as well as the Martinican writer and theoretician, Edouard Glissant's belief that ..."the past resides in material objects that only release their hidden meanings when encountered imaginatively and sensuously. Betancourt admires the works of diverse artists such as Fernando Oller, Cisco Jimenez, Bill Viola...

Chain is 23.5 inches long. Pendant is 3.75 X 2 X 1 inches This piece is not signed. but the chain matches completely with the signed one that I have. Pal Kepenyes is a sculptor and researcher of Hungarian art, whose artistic production includes sculptures of small and medium format, jewelry and miniature decorative pieces, all made by hand, without any machinery. Wearable art. Sculptural pendant on matching chain cast in polished bronze or brass. Reminiscent of Harry Bertoia. Organic Modernism. Mod, space age, handmade artisan, studio jewelry. Pal Kepenyes, wearable art pioneer. sculptor, goldsmith, jeweler, artist, was born in 1926 in Hungary. His creative talent, specifically in creating sculpted works, was evident early on. He moved to Budapest, where he first studied at the University of Arts and Crafts and later at the Academy of Fine Arts. His professor, Beni Ferenczy was one of Hungary's most influential sculptors. If you’re thinking about decorating your space with abstract sculpture, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

You don’t have to look for a piece that demands attention. Find a work of abstract sculpture that speaks to you. As is the case with any abstract art, whether it’s sculpture, an abstract painting or a grouping of prints, you can select a work for your living room or dining room, for example, that will either casually fade into the background or serve as a focal point. When you’re thinking about how to arrange your furniture and decor, consider color, texture and what kind of energy you’d like a specific room or corner to evoke. Abstract sculpture can go a long way in elevating a home, and its history is interesting if you’re shopping for a new piece today.

As a pioneer in naturalistic forms and figures that vividly express emotion, Auguste Rodin is often called the father of modern sculpture. His work in the 19th and early 20th century broke with artistic conventions and inspired modernism, leading to a new period of avant-garde abstraction.

Among the first artists to push abstract sculpture into the mainstream were Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. They helped define the movement of Cubism, which focused on deconstructing the world abstractly.

Later in the 20th century, the artistic movements of Italian Futurism, Dadaism, Neo-Dadaism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and minimalism all contributed to the advancement of new and more abstract sculpture designs. Italian Futurism, for example, celebrated movement, dynamics and technology in abstract sculpture. These movements passed down ideas that continue to inform abstract sculpture today.
