This one of a kind Mid-Century Modern screen was custom made in the 1960s for a commercial structure in East Texas. It was part of the architect's original design for the interior. It was mounted floor to ceiling in the entry space as a decorative element. It is in excellent original condition and would be an amazing in the right environment. The solid walnut bowties and the anodized gold frame are an absolutely stunning example of Classic Mid-Century Modernism. Contemporary New York artist Peter Buchman's "Exit Strategy" is made of laser cut plexiglass, acrylic medium and enamel on wood. It's a part of his Voice-Over series, in which the artist culls linguistic phrases in a journey to immortalize how wonderfully other cultures have contributed to the American Diaspora. To explain that Buchman's word paintings are 'A Figure of Speech' is underestimating the level of soulfulness at which these works reside. They are markings directly from the artist’s hand yet are indications of many people before him. These are words from familiar phrases, music albums, his funny brand of irony and the human form itself. As far as "Exit Strategy" goes, Peter Buchman tends to dream a lot when he sleeps. When it's a really deep sleep, he is usually in an espionage kind of caper. Maybe James Bond meets film noir. He doesn't know why, but he's woken himself up running in place, sweating, and truly believing that he's killed someone. It is such a relief to sit up in bed and find that nothing's really happened, and all is well in his little corner of the world. With that said, there's a twisted, funny side to all of this, which leads him to something that everyone is familiar with: getting out of a sticky situation and how to address it. Facing it head-on and with a sense of humor is his default. Signed and dated en verso. This is a commissioned piece and will ship directly from the artist's studio.
American artist Peter Buchman has BFA in Illustration from The Rhode Island School of Design and did a Sculpture Residency at The School of Visual Arts in New York. Peter's artwork has been exhibited throughout the US since 1981 including the Parrish Art Museum (Southampton, NY), Cooperstown Museum (NY), Delaware Museum of Art, Kidder Smith Gallery (MA) and Vered Gallery (East Hampton, NY). NASA’s historic Apollo 11 Mission—crewed by astronauts Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and commander Neil Armstrong—departed earth on July 16th, 1969, and landed on the moon four days later, near the Sea of Tranquility, while 500 million people watched on television. Armstrong and Aldrin spent two and a half hours exploring the surface of the moon, collecting samples and taking photographs.
The camera they used was a modified 70mm Hasselblad lunar surface camera, designed specifically for the event. During the Mission, nine magazines of 70mm film were exposed, providing panoramic views of the surface near the lunar module...

"Norman Mills Price never fully received the popular recognition that his work deserved. Because he was so intently interested in historical subjects, he restricted his work to these almost exclusively.
The dedication and artistry he brought to his work, however, was especially appreciated and respected by a select group – his fellow-illustrators. His painstaking research into every detail made each picture an authentic documentary, but the detail was never allowed to detract from the dramatic concept of the illustration itself. Although Price made effective use of tone and color, his pen-and-ink drawings were especially effective, exhibiting a full range of values and textural effects."
"Price was born in Canada, studied art there and in London and Paris. By 1912, he had established himself in New York and had begun to work for American publications. Some of his most successful illustrations were done for a long series of historical novels by Robert W. Chambers for Liberty magazine. He was a charter member of the Society of Illustrators at the time of his death."
"Illustrator, Norman Mills Price was born in Brampton, Ontario (1877) and began his studies at the Ontario School of Art. Around 1901 he spent time in London, studying at the Goldsmith's Institute; Westminster School of Art; and with Cruikshank. While in London, he was the founder of Carlton Studios.
He later went on to Paris, studying at the Academie Julian, with J.P. Laurens and R.E. Miller. He did freelance work in Paris until an assignment in Belgium for Century brought him to the attention of other American publishers. In 1911, he had a studio in New York City, and worked for such publication as Harper's, Cosmopolitan, and Liberty.
He illustrated the novels: "The Lamb's Tales from Shakespeare (1905), The Rogue's Moon (1929), Leif Erikson...
